| Newbie | I am brand new to the board. I am so excited to be here. I just had my surgery on 12/12/06. I did not have it open but laproscopic. I did not have a lap band though either. I have been walking around my small block and there are times when I want to try going around again and then I feel winded. I am glad that I am hearing all of your stories because it lets me know that I am not failing at this part. The last thing that I want is for the doctor to say, "We came all of this way and you are not excercising enough." I am really trying but I do get worn out with just one lap. It has only been 5 days too. I have been doing a complete lap (about 1/3 of a mile for 2 days now). So, I don't know should I be grateful for where I am at this time. I am also getting a little aching pain in my one hip. Is this normal? Thanks for welcoming me in. |

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, Mini, thank you for joining us. I have copied your post here from the original exercise thread. From what you say, I gather you had lap gastric bypass. It is normal for you to feel winded, you are less than a week out, so take it easy, and at the pace that your surgeon tells you to. Anything you feel out of the ordinary, have it cleared with your surgoen first. Keep in mind, you are still healing, inside and out, so you need to let your body heal first. Exercise is only for letting you be up and about around your home for the moment, and to prevent post op unpleasantries like pneumonia and blood clots, and not about losing weight right at this moment. It is normal for you to have some pain, but also, if it is in your hip, then, did you have problems pre-op because of your weight? If so, you should consult your surgeon, then an orthopedic surgeon, to see if it is something that needs to be take care of, or can be left alone for the time being, until you lose weight, then see how it goes. (((((((((HUGS)))))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome! Sounds like your doing great! I was lukcy to just get a lap around the hospital room. It will come with time. Before WLS I was lucky to get to the mailbox(not that far from the house) without being winded. I trekking 2 miles now. Just walking around the house helps a lot! Don't sell yourself short. There is no failure. Every day is a small victory. You should be proud at your progress.

| Newbie | Funny thing though, the one thing I was worrying about, throwing up , has not happened even once. I pray that I am not jinxing myself with this. So far a little MILD discomfort (like a 0-1 on the pain scale) with what I think is indigestion.Today I am going to make my first protein shake. What have some of you done this early to spice up the taste. I was told that I could add a little bit of canned fruit into it with ice and my milk so I think that I will try that first. I have just been adding it in my Carnation Instant Breakfast and mixing with a hand blender to mix well. I don't really notice the taste very much but yet I am getting it in. Thanks again guys for the responses. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | HI MINNIE! GLAD to hear your doing well. As far as sprucing up my shakes i used early out ready made ones that i found i loved and very creamy. BUT for powder ones i tend to add some banana, splenda, cocoa extra, devinichi sugar free syrups, strawberries.....do them up in the blender with some ice cubes and enjoy. BE careful if you use a straw not to get to much air in your tummy while drinking, never bothered me but some have issues with that. ENJOY them i also when useing a powder protein i always used HOOD calorie countdown chocolate milk with them. (formerly named carbcountdown milk) just be careful of the sugar on the canned fruit. IT might cause you to react even if its in water. EARLY out your very sensative to sweet in it even if its a natural sugar. Even simple apple juice requires deluting in water so watch on canned fruits. SOUNDS like your doing good! SIP SIP SIP!
