| Missed you all but I had been busy!
Alot has happened over the last couple of months and I have not been posting as frequently as I did in the beginning of this journey that I started in February.
It was not for lack of anything to say (anyone who knows me knows I do not lack for having alot to say about everything). Nor was it due to no longer having any interest in this board.
I recently left my job as an emloyee (where I was VP) and am now on contract with the same company working from my home and selling finacial services to SMEs in a distinct territory. I was primarily paid on commission but found that over 50% of my time was dealing with operational matters for which I was not being compensated and that work was both increasing and negatively affecting what I was earning.
It took a couple of months to negotiate a contract with them and to try to jump start everything from a home based office and work for a company now missing the extra value I added when I working from their offices doing all the extra work load. Just like wls, short term pain, long term gain.
Speaking of working out of my house, I just moved into a new home last week (still living in boxes mind you). I had new hardwood and ceramic floors installed (I pulled out all the baseboards, carpets and secured the sub floors before professionals laid down the new floors)
About my weight loss, well I have so much energy now that I start my days around 6am and combine office work, unpacking, putting up new lights, paintings, going to business events and parties.
We had our first major snow fall yesterday and before leaving for an evening party, instead of using my snowblower I pulled out a small shovel and spent an hour shovelling both the snow that fell and what the city plows dumped onto my driveway without being out of breath or even the least bit tired. It was exilerating.
This morning I snowblowed and shovelled again, then loaded 8 large packages of lumber and ceramics and other building materials onto a Home Depot forklift that came to pick up their over delivery and was amazed that I wasnt even marginally tired or out of breath.
For those of you in the early stages of this journey caught up in weighing yourself, I understand your need to see the changes in your scales but in reality, there are better ways to measure your progress so dont get caught up in using the scales on a frequent basis.
I havent weighed myself in about 3 months although I plugged in 180 today in my profile. I am probably less than that. I can tell the progress from my clothes and since surgery February 1st find myself buying new clothes every 2 months.
The size 38 pants I bought a little over a month ago fall down without a belt done at the tightest notch and I find size 36 now fits nicely. Neck of size 17 is now too big for me so time for new dress shirts agaib. This is quite a change given that 10 months ago I was a size 52 waist and 22 neck. Hard to believe I have lost 16" from my waist and 6" from my neck.
I worked from home before this recent job and admit I am concerned about possible lack of exercise not having to get up, dressed and out of the house as frequently as one would if they had a downtown office job. So not taking any chances, I am getting a puppy tomorrow (Miniature Schnauzer) so I will force myself to taking her for at least 2 - 20 minute walks every day.
Christmas is around the corner and I head to Toronto for Christmas dinner with the in-laws, back to celebrate here in Ottawa and on January 2nd throwing a large hose warming party that includes a celebration of my mother's 90th birthday and my son's 25th birthday.
A year ago I would have worried about where I could gather up the energy to meet these self-imposed deadlines , but today I just know it will happen (that is after I put up 4 more ceiling fans, all the main floor baseboards, 4 more regular ceiling lights and around 40 paintings and unpack at least 30 more boxes).
A benefit of having gone through this surgery was one I never really expected. While I knew I would be healthier and understood that I would gain energy, I never thought that this would be a reversal of getting older.
While I am chonologically aging, I physically and mentally feel younger. I feel it in my bones, in my attitude. I see it in my walk. I reflect it in what I do, what I say and how I approach things.
I listen to people my age or younger speak of their deteriorating physical conditions, their aches and pains, slowing down in their activities while I am looking forward to increasing my activities.
Who would have thought the fountain of youth lay at the end of a surgeon's knife? I think I should call my surgeon Ponce De Leon from now on.
Best to all of you embarking on this life changing journey. Dont let it end with just your weight loss but adopt all of the positive changes that come along with it and realize your true potential and have fun!

Welcome, back and you are so right about the energy, was really sad prior to my surgery had only went up and down the stairs when it was really necessary now I am up and down all the time. Congratulations on your new job, I too work from home is a real great benefit. Oh the snow you can have it, lived up north and then in the Chicago area and I don't miss it. But well come back.

How's it feel to actually be able to LIVE your life now, instead of merely enduring it? You've done a great job, blue!!
