any suggestions on cereals. I use to enjoy Honey Bunches of oats and now I'm wondering if I could try a little. I use skim milk plus. I had sort of an allergic reaction to the silk soy milk early out. I definately will not try it again. if Honey Bunches is not recommended I won't try it but please suggest another. thanks

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

i am 5 weeks out and I had some honey bunches of oats with skim milk last week for a couple mornings. I ate it with no problems. The only thing is besides the skim milk, it doesnt provide much protein.

The first 5 ingredients are:
Corn
Whole Grain Wheat
Sugar
Whole Grain Rolled oats
Brown Sugar

One serving also has 25g of carbs - 6 sugar, 17 other and 2 fiber - plus 2 g protein. Add the natural sugar content from the milk you pour on it, and you could be pushing close to your personal limits.

Although there are only 6 g sugar per 3/4 cup serving, I'd be a little bit cautious, especially if early out. Ever hear of a trigger food? That's one where some element of the food triggers associations in our minds with the bad old days, making it much harder to stay focused on doing as we should as far as staying on track goes.

As a general rule, I don't do cereal a whole lot. With the combination of milk and solids, I can't decide if I'm eating or drinking, or both at the same time.

Kashi Go Lean is loaded with protein. By itself it tastes yucky but if you add a little sugar substitute &/or some chopped fruit it's not too bad. Don't quote me but I think there's either 9 or 13 g protein per serving.

I wondered if cereals were allowed post op. I never really cared much for it anyway, I did eat cheerios once in a while...but I did wonder if it was allowed because I'm thinking the milk in the cereal is the same as eating and drinking at the same time, unless you ate it with a fork, lol. I thought the same thing about soup....now I eat the cream soups because I'm still on purees...but later if I eat chunky soups that have broth is that not eating and drinking at the same time? I will have to ask my dietition at my one month appt next week.

1) Whatever they are, ALWAYS check the labels of ALL food products, and choose accordingly and wisely.
2) Use only enough milk to moisten the cereal--don't let it swim in milk, and don't drink the remaining milk, as it is drinking when eating if you get the extra milk in.

The Kashi Go Lean w/dried fruit makes a good snack. Chuck a handful (1c) into a ZipLoc bag, shake things around a little & presto! Snack w/13g protein. You can also toss some (1c) of the cereal in a bag w/either Equal or garlic salt depending on your taste, shake it around & have a "flavored" & healthful snack. For added umph throw in some almonds.

I've eaten Rice Crispies and Cherrios with Splenda and protein, but have been afraid to try my favorite Frosted Flakes. Any suggestions if I should try it?
