Default Need Help; Someone to Talk to

It's been 3 1/2 wks since my surgery. My doctor says the surgery went well but I am struggling. I am feel very nauseated every day. I've been given patches, don't like to use because they make my brain fuzzy. I have another medication that helps some. I,m having trouble getting the protein in and the water is a struggle. I have no energy, really just want to go to bed and cover my head up and sleep. Feel terrible. I have lost 21 lbs. which they say is right on track. If anyone else has had these symptoms, please help me. What can I do to get over this hump. Also One of my incisions became infected and now is being packed once a week. How long will it take before this heals?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The first 4-6 weeks are the absolute toughest! I had similar issues and I have read about many others who struggled just as much in the first 4-6 weeks. Doc will soon come on and say.... sip sip sip sip, walk walk walk walk and she is right! I found that most of my nausea was related to gas so walking really helped and constantly sipping is imperative. I set alarms in my cell phone to remind me to sip every 15 minutes, I only had to keep them for a week or so and then it was just a routine for me.

You WILL get through this tough part! Your weightloss is on track and soon you will really start seeing and feeling the benefits of the weightloss and these early struggles will just be a distant memory. Keep your eye on the prize!

Make sure to fill in your stats for your profile, it really helps the folks around here to help you more effectively. I checked your profile to see if you had an instant messenger listed so I could just IM you. I totally understand your need to talk! We are ALL here for you!

Hi LSoutherland, my name is Maureen and I had my RNY surgery just two weeks ago and have experienced some of the same things, I have an open wound that got infected and we have to repack the gauze every day, which is very painful. My energy levels have been very low and I am also struggling to get in all of my water (liquids) each day. But each day I wake up and get through the day reminding myself that it was all worth it and I will get better. When you need a friend to talk to this website is absolutely filled with so many kind people who are always encouraging and have gone through similar situations, which makes it very comforting. I will pass on the advice given to me by many beautiful people on here....Hang in there...it DOES get better!

Good luck,
Maureen

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

What is the patch for?
So long as your surgeon thinks that your pouch and the new layout is intact and there's nothing physically wrong there.
1) You are probaby dehydrated, which will cause you a lot of issues including the nause and depression. If worse comes to worst, then you may need some IV fluids to set you on the right track, so try to sip sip sip, walk walk walk.
2) Always keep in mind that your new pouch is much smaller than your mouth, so don't gulp a mouthful and expect it to go down all at once. Do things slowly and in very small portions at first.
3) Your insides is still healing, so your body is using all the energy you have for that. You will feel blah for a few more weeks yet. It's winter, hibernate without any remorse.

How quickly the infected incision will heal is going to depend on how deep the infection is. If it's only close around the surface, it shouldn't take that much time. If the pocket is deep, it may take several weeks.
Hang in there, next time this year, you will marvel at how far you've come.

I'm so sorry you are having trouble. I went through the same thing for the first 4-6 weeks I was miserable. All I wanted to do was sleep. But it does get better, believe me. Make sure you keep hydrated and get in as much protein as you can. Walking really helped me, even if it was only around the block.

All things in time will pass, including the gas!
Yes you need to sip water, no straws, just simple little sips. Heck if necessary, suck on some ice.

Always keep a full glass or cup of water beside you wherever you are. When you take a couple of sips, fill it up again. Keep water in the car, just keep it everywhere.

I had alot of difficulty with the protein shakes because I didnt like the taste but I forced myself knowing that my surgeon restircted their use to 2 weeks post op so I could surely make it through drinking them for 2 weeks.

Just remember, short term pain, long term gain. Each week will pass easier and easier and the process routine.

Enjoy the positive changes in your journey and dont focus on the few negatives and it will become a lot easier.

Best of luck!

I'm 3 weeks out and am very lucky I'm not having any problems. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. I couldn't and still can't drink the creamy protein shakes. They are all sicky sweet. I found isopure no carb at GNC and that has been my main source of protein. It a fruit flavored drink and not too sweet. Much easier to get down than something thick. Hope you find something that will work for you so you can get your protein in and feel better. I did have a couple of days I just wanted to crawl in a hole and be left alone but it passed the next day. Actually walking did help. I try to do 20 minutes on the treadmill twice a day. Some days I have to drag myself there but after I've walked I feel good. Hope you feel better soon.
