Default Hi everyone-new to the site

Hi everyone,

My name is Shondi Mulkey. I just joined the sight last night when I found it while googling about the surgery. I am currently scheduled for surgery on Jan 8th but think it might be moved back to the 29th-which I am okay with. Still trying to make peace with all my anxieties. Have to admit that God must have sent me to this sight though as I have gotten some great info and confidence by reading through the previous threads. I am the mother to 4 wonderful children, a 12 year old girl, Darbi and 4 year old triplets-Dawson, Devyn & Delaney. My husband Scott, who is my biggest supporter and believer, and I have been married for 18 years. I am 38 years old and have been overweight for about as long as I have been married. Prior to that I was a size 0, 1, 3, 5. Just had my 20th high school reunion and realized that basically I have doubled my weight since high school. I have wanted to have the surgery for a while but my insurance, BCBS of Louisiana does not cover weight loss surgery at all. We had the opportunity this year to have access the funds to pay for it and I decided to go for it. I want to increase my energy and my ability to do different things with my kids and husband. Tired of saying I will do that "when I lose weight". I own my own business, a franchise called Kinderdance-we go to daycares and preschools and teach dance & gym to 2 to 5 year olds. Have an accounting degree and did that for 7 years but really love working with children. Haven't let me weight keep me from doing this but do always feel a little funny standing in front of people talking to them about teaching their children and wondering if they think how can this big woman teach these little kids dance. I always wonder if it affects my credibility. Another reason can't wait to get this weight off.
I currently weigh about 225#s and am 5'4". I guess I want to lose about 80 lbs or so.
Well, I know this is very long-that's me. Always talking alot

To all of you who have been through this scary journey-thank you so much for all the posts that help all of those in my current position.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone through the site.

Shondi

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome Shondi.
Sounds like your set for the long haul. It took me 5 years of thinking about WLS before I went for it, but once I did, it was full speed ahead and I'm now so glad that I did.
I'm like you, God sent me to this site.
Keep us posted on what happens and don't be afraid to ask questions or say how you feel. We have all been there.

Hi Shondi,
I just recently found this board myself and have found it to be a blessing. I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and have a lot of questions. You'll find a lot of warm, caring people here who are willing to share their experiences. Good luck with your own!
