Default Newbie here! RNY 12/15/09

Hello, everyone. I'm new here. Just had RNY surgery on December 15. I just recently found this website, and just had to join in! To those of you that have been through this already, any words of wisdom or advice (besides "follow the doctor's orders") ??

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

[To those of you that have been through this already, any words of wisdom or advice (besides "follow the doctor's orders") ??[/quote]

Welcome, this is a great site. First, add your stats on the left so we can know who we're chatting with. Other than "following the doctor's orders" (which is the MOST important thing), sip, walk, sip, walk, sip, sip, and sip. I think you get the hint. We say to follow your docs orders because every doc is different. Make sure you walk, and take your time to heal. You may feel fine, but you had major surgery and it will be a while before you are totally healed.

Congrats on making one of the best decisions you could ever make. Hang around a while; we're pretty nice at times .

Welcome to the site and I hope you find your stay here a pleasant and informative one! I love it here and I visit almost daily. There is so much info to fill your brain with and the people on here are just sooooo friendly and wonderful support.
The best advice I can offer is to be kind to yourself and not get disappointed if the weight doesn't come off exactly in the time you wish it would, everybody is different in the rate of success.
You will come into moments when your loss stops while your body is catching up, so don't get dismayed with the stalls, it happens to pretty much everybody at one time or another.
ENJOY your new life changes..........

Welcome and thanks for joining us. Words of wisdom:

Take it slow and easy. Introduce news foods in small amounts.

Getting enough exercise is critical to success. Get up & moving even when you don't feel like doing so.

Focus on hydration and protein ALWAYS.

When in doubt check it out. If you've got unusual pain, discomfort, etc... call your doc. Chances are it may be nothing but it's better early out to be safe than sorry.

Get used to trial and error regarding food intake. What you can eat one day you may not be able to eat the next.

Enjoy the journey.

Okay, you have your tool installed now. From here on out, this is a mental game. The tool will help you lose weight if you let it, so you have to create the ideal conditions for it to work. You will most likely discover the meaning of "head hunger" in the next few weeks. This is where the mind over matter becomes extremely important. From here on out, the rest of your life, your self-discipline and focus will determine how well you do.

There'll be potholes along the road, and there'll be scenic overlooks. Savor your successes and WOWs. Endure the potholes, and don't let them throw you off your game. The views are spectacular!!!

You've come this far. We live here to help folks get down the road to a new life, so anything you need, just ask!!

Welcome to the RR family!!

My best advice is don't be too hard on yourself. There will be ups and downs in this journey and without doubt you will slip up, you will hit stalls and you may even gain a few ounces here or there. It is important to not beat yourself up, pick yourself up, make a plan and stick to it. I found myself in a bad cycle for a couple of weeks and a resulting stall, I put my plan together and executed and things were back on track in no time.

Oh and MsVickie will probably jump in the thread and tell you to get rid of your scale!!! I didn't want to at first and the rest of my family needs it b/c they are athletes and have to manage their weight into set weight classes so we still have ours, but I successfully avoid it and even if I do step on it - I don't give my self crap over it.
