Default Hi everyone! Newbie here!

Hello! My name is Tammy and I live in KY. I am 46 years old and am now 5 wks post op from GBS. I've struggled with my weight since childhood. I became anorexic when in was in Jr. High School. I can remember my Mom threatening to take me to a psychiatrist (pretty progressive for the times, I think). I've been on every diet imaginable. I could always lose weight, but could not KEEP it off (sound familiar, anyone?). I had been considering WLS for about a year. Oddly enough, my family DR was against it, even though I had developed HBP, HCHOL, and asthma! So, I found a surgeon, myself, and the rest is history! Anyway, this is where I am in the struggle: 5 wks post op, still eating soft food, unable to go back to work due to a lifting restriction, I'm walking 1 mile/day, and I've lost 29 lbs. I've gone through every emotion in the book! I really miss food, but I love that the weight is coming off! I'm really hoping that this forum can help with some of the unanswered questions I've had.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Howietam,

Congrats on your wls. I'm 8 weeks post op. So we're not to far apart. I'm at the next phase in the journey when it comes to eating. I'm suppose to be trying one new food a day without pureeing it. Everything else that I eat besides the one new food is still suppose to pureed . It's been an experience let me tell you. Feel free to ask questions you like, someone will have an answer or can get it for you.

Happy Losing,

Debbie

Welcome to the board, Tammy, congratulations on joining the loser's bench, and thank you for joining us.

Everyone goes through roller coaster emotions during this journey so you are not alone, but be sure, if it looks even remotely bad, then seek professional help as well. Many surgeons and bariatric centers offer help in this area too, as this is part of your journey.

((((((((((HUGS))))))))) May your journey go well!

Talking Welcome!

Tammy....congratulations in crossing over!
Being a looser is amazing...I'm sure you are beginning to feel this already! So glad you found us here at RR!

I'm Deborah, I'm 38 - wife and mother of one "sometimes sweet" 3yr old. I am 8mos. PostOp...and have lost 124#'s (still have 59#'s to go.) I'm thrilled and sooo thankful for this surgery.
I too have simular memories as you do of my adolescent/teen years. I too had an eating disorder....and have struggled with my weight since about 13yrs. old.

Early on in my journey post op I too had/have gone thru every emotion in the book! I continue my reflections....continue being introspective...and deal with my loss of food...the feelings that went with 'eating'...the social activity of eating....etc...etc. I would highly recommend that you journal...journal EVERYTHING.
My media was via Blog (which is linked below) If you want to know anything 'deeper' check out my blog....I had some huge revelations in February....and May.
I'm here if you want to talk....would love to talk in the open forum. Or would love to hear from you via PM or email. Please feel free to ask me ANYTHING!!!

So glad you are here....WELCOME!

WOW! You guys sound great! Just what I needed. I have been grieving at times about the food, the social situations. My husband teaches at a local college and would often call me to join him for lunch or coffee at the local Tim Horton's (coffee/pastries). I really, really miss that. Church functions, occasions at work....etc, etc. I think you get my meaning.
Deborah, I'm looking forward to going over your blog.
Tammy
ps. I'm going to have to come up with a cute picture for my sig!

MY husband also went thru a adjustment period!

HE LOST HIS EATING PARTNER. food really isnt a big deal for me anymore.
SO he needed to adjust alot....he does most the family cooking, had to learn to not make nearly as much cause i dont do leftovers post op......
BUT he lost his eating partner...when it comes to ordering in food now im no help cause i dont care i usually will just pic some protein and be done.
HE misses our big chinese orders on saturday nights were we pigged out on tons, so he had to adjust big time to my new eating.

I also eat in a baby food sized bowl to be sure i keep portions in line and he hates that......but i ignore the comments. HE has gotten used to things now...

so the point is my hubby greived his old PIGGING OUT PARTNER, but mind you he is not overweight and dont have weight issues to concern of...so for him eating that way if fine.

all the best!
