Default Pasta Rice Bread

I know pasta, rice, bread, etc. are hard to eat after surgery because they expand in your stomach and all that - I am wondering does this mean you can't have them forever and ever? I am trying to work on the mental part of all of this - I crave those things. So far I've been good and followed the dr. and Nut. instructions perfectly - but now I've been given the all clear as far as diet and I was just wondering what some people experienced.

I guess fruit is another one to ask about - I'm terribly afraid of dumping so I've not had any fruit yet.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

It's not for ever and ever, but I do suggest that you avoid them until you've finished losing weight. They will slow you loss. I still hardly ever eat rice, pasta or potatoes, but I do have half a sandwich for lunch every day and half a bagel for breakfast.

they are one of those things for the further out for sure...and that said..as always the protein
should always be the focus in anything you eat even after you finish losing.

I make bread and often eat it too but that doesn't mean it's the best thing for me for sure!

I def. try to avoid bread unless It's toasted cause it expands. If I do eat pasta it potatoes I eat a very small amount cause It's too heavy and will make me sick. As for fruits it took a good month before I could eat them w/o dumping. Even popsicles made from fruit (no sugar added) made me dump...I found that out within the first couple weeks. I now eat fruit daily...I actually crave fruit instead of junk food. And I'll dip my banana slices in peanut butter for protein.

I am 6 months post op and I can tolerate any pasta, bread or potatoes, but I generally don't. By the time I'm done eating my protein and my veges, there usually isn't enough room left for more than a bite or two of them. Most times I don't even bother. I can eat some fruit, but I am allergic to many raw fruits so my choices are limited. I've found that I can eat apples (without the peel), strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. I can eat grapes but I found out that I'm not supposed to because of the skins. I've been really lucky that I can eat a lot of things. I haven't dumped yet, but I have gotten nauseaus a few times. I'm pretty careful though.

Those foods are part of what got you to the point that you needed surgery to get healthy. Stay away from them!

For me CARBS are a big no no, I'm with decker they are what got me here and I still crave them. I will have a slice of whole grain oat brand bread toasted with peanut butter three days a week for breakfast, 30 minutes after my protein drink.
I don't have pasta and hardly ever have potatoes because there is never any room after eating my protein.

I'm with Decker on this one! carbs..yes we need some to stay healthy but the best choices if you are going to eat carbs are the COMPLEX PROTEINs..legumes, tofu, dahl *split peas* because they give you very usable carbs. Fruits, although they are great..I personally dump on 'em...they are a once in a while choice. or should be.

Decker..I applaud you for just saying it..that stuff is what got us hugely obese in the first place..don't return to 'em! They are 'familiar' foods and can set off a lot of UNhealthy eating.

I only focus on the stuff I know I need. If I do partake in bread or pasta it is only whole grain and not processed or bleached. That stuff was my downfall for years.
