Default hello from Canada

Newbie here, start Optifast next week. Wondering how others found the experience. My surgery is set for April 16th.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default Hello, also from Canada

I didn't mind the Optifast, I only had to do it for 2 weeks. It helps to mix it with some flavourings like coffee granuals, sf davinci syrups or crystal light. I only used the chocolate as well.

Best of luck, you will be on the loser's bench before you know it.

Hey there

Do you mind me asking which hospital you had your surgery at? It is so nice to see someone else from Ontario

Are you having your surgery in Toronto? Dr. Hagen's group?

I had mine February 26, 2010. They did a great job and I was really pleased how well I did. Drink lots of water with the Optifast as I had trouble with it bunging me up post-op. I preferred the vanilla because it was not so rich tasting with the milk.

yes at humber with Dr. Starr!

I am super nervous! but exited. Did you feel light headed on the Optifast? Can I mix any fruit with it?

How are you feeling now that you are almost 2 months out? Are you back at work?

Default No Fruit

Hiya, No you are not allowed to mix fruit with it. Just the Optifast and lettuce, cucumber, celery, brocolli, green pepper and a dressing made with lemon juice. That is all that I was allowed. And only 2 cups a day of that.
I lost 18 pounds on the Optifast in 3 weeks pre-surgery. I did feel light headed the first few days. I went nowhere they served food for the three weeks so I would adhere to it without cheating. I think that helped. I also stopped watching television because the food commercials drove me crazy.

Just make sure you don't get a post op room across from the nursing station. They kept us up all night even with the door closed. Alot of Jamaican women (who love to laugh) which is good! But not good if you are a patient trying to sleep *** laughing*** and not at 2 am.

When they give you the Heparin injections in the middle of the night , be sure and wake up and turn on the light. The one nurse pulled back the covers and gave it to me in the thigh...when they should all go in the belly. Tell them to take their time giving it. There is no need for the bruising you get if given too fast. And don't rub the injection site as it makes you bruise more.

I only took Torodol for the pain. And only twice on the first day. I went home on no meds. I would advise you to walk as soon as you feel capable of doing so. Even if for only 10 minutes at a time. Gets the gas moving and then you have less pain which means less pain meds which means less constipation which means less pain...laughing

There is a large shower at the end of the hallway. If you have some support person ask them to cap off your IV and use it on the first day. Helped me to relax and then hubby powdered me and dressed me which made me feel great. The nurses will not have time to help you so plan on having someone there who you would feel comfortable helping you. There is a chair in the shower so if you feel weak you can sit down.

Not much else to say. It is going to be great! And I will be praying all goes well for you. I had a nice anesthetist and nurses and it was alot easier than I thought.

If you want to talk let me know how you are doing feel free...

Kimberley
