Default Hello from NJ

I guess it's about time I introduce myself. I've lurked here on and off. This is a topic I've gone back and forth with for the last 5 years. I finally took the step of calling about the procedures. I have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday for consult. I all ready called my provider, and gave them the procedure code # and such, and it would appear I am covered if I decide to proceed.

I've been to many sites, read many things, and while I am excited at the prospect of this hope, I am nervous as to the large lifestyle changes the first month or two will bring upon. I'm aware it's a lifestyle change, it's the beginning phase that makes me nervous.

I'll probably lurk more than talk for awhile, until I come to a final decision, but I wanted to say hello and let you know I appreciate all that you've each shared on these boards. These are the places I turn when I have questions and want to hear it from the perspective of those who have gone through it...not just what the medical books say.

So hello, and thank you. Deb

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

HI DEB!!!
SO glad you came from behind the scenes lurking to a poster!
NO matter were you are in the journey we welcome all folks to jump in and get to know each other here.

I am 18 months post op and down 143 lbs. Its the best thing i ever did for myself and now i am working hard to keep control. PERSONALLY for me i when i started weighing the risks i had to myself at 310 lbs, possibly a stroke or heart attack any moment it out weighed the risks that the surgery would have. SO i went for it. I think we all have to get to a certain point of furstration with our weight, when this choice to have the surgery is right. IT clicks and comes together.
YOU will know when your at this point. I first actually started my journey looking into gastric banding....and read books...then i went to an information seminiar with my surgeon and began journey ...then after meeting with my surgeon i decided at my size i was a much better canadate for gastric bypass RNY.....then began reading up on this and going this path.

PLZ feel free to post during your deicison process we love everyone!!
hugs
and I look forward to getting to know you thru your posts!

Welcome and please look around and read, some of what you read may help in your decision. I know its not an easy one, but I'll be forever glad I made it. I too spent about 5 years trying to decide and then working with insurance prior to my surgery.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask!!

Welcome Deb, I too am pre surgery but a little further in the game than you. I had the initial consult, met with the dietician and psychiatrist. Friday I meet with the surgeon and hopefully will get my surgery date then.

I have also been mulling this surgery over for about 5 years. I actually had an appointment 4 or 5 years ago with another surgeon but went on Atkins, lost 40 lbs and cancelled the surgery. I have since put it back on plus. So I know exactly where you are at.

It is exciting once you make the first step isn't it?
