Hi all, this is my 1st post. To give you a little backround, I had my bypass surgrey on September 26, 2006 and my goal weight was to loose 100 pounds. So far I have lost 93 pounds, but I have slipped from the "protien first" motto because I had a diffcult time eating dense meats. As a result, I am eating more soft carbs like pastas, cereals, pretzels, bread etc..
I also recently have been under major job related stress and have become anxious and depressed to the point that my doctor has put me on a medical leave from work. Now that I am on medication, I am feeling even worse. Someone sugeested that one reason I have taken such a turn, could be diet related. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments. |

oh how glad i am that you found a great board for support 24/7
cause we all need it!!!!!!!
I look forward to getting to know you thru your posts.
FIRST off congratulations on 83 lbs lost! YOUR doing aesome! YOU will
reach your goals.
I can fully relate to the eating issues. I am currently battling similar
at 18 months out. I met my surgeons and pcp goals but never my own goal.
DEPRESSION is a side effect we battle the first year post op. I know i never had such issues in my life till my surgery. I will add i havent had it as bad since 12 months out.......but i get moody at times. WEiGHT loss doesnt fix all our problems that i see.
I dont personally believe the diet would cause you all this but perhaps your battling the post op depression/blues that many get the first year while rapidly looseing and our hormones goinmg wacky.
SORRY to hear medication has you feeling worse. I never went for meds
but i know sometimes it takes a few different attempts on diff meds to find the one that works in your case. PLEASE tell your professionals and try another medication. YOU shouldnt have to feel so bad.
(((HUG))))
sorry the job has major stress. BUT you know never understood myself why if i lost 100 lbs i wasnt soooo happy. BUT at times i was very foul mooded, weepy and it sucked. THAT has stablized tons.
I do suggest you start postin on what your eating thread today thread we have gals on the site that start it each morning and it will be a good way for you to be accountable for your eating and help get on track. WHEN i start slipping and i doo that gets me back on track.
GO to a local support meeting if you have them in your area!
TAKE out any paperwork from your surgeon or nutritionist and go over the basic rules and try to get the mind on track. ONCE we loose the bulk weight we have to work harder and use the good healthy eating habits
for life! IT gets tougher and im in that boat now.
HUGS
feel free to PM me anytime .
HOPE i have helped! KEEP in touch

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on your weightloss!!
I am sorry to hear of the troubles you are having.
If your depression medications seems not to be working, talk to your dr about it and have your medication changed, as the effectiveness of medication varies will people. Also, exercise and other forms of therapy also helps.
As for your diet, have you tried protein food other than meat?
As an example, many seem to find shrimp good. Can you eat fish? Smoked salmon and such? Turkey is also another choice.
As Lisa says, taste constantly changes throughout your journey, so what you may not do well with today, may turn out to be fine tommorow.
(((((((HUGS)))))))) May your journey go well.
P.S. I am moving this thread to Your Profile, as this is your first post, so you'll get lots of welcomes.

I also want to offer congrats on your weight loss. And i can relate to your issues with food as well. I do not do good with meats either. I eat chicken and seem to do ok with it depending on how prepared . Red meats is touch and go. Some days i can have chopmeat other its comes right back up. I tend to stay away from them when i can.,I get alot of protein from tofu, cheeses and things like that. I also add protein powder to my coffee every am. I read this acticle recently and maybe it can help explain your moods. We are here for you. Women-Wise

CONGRATS on your awesome 93lb weight loss!!!
I just wanted to chime in to say that a few years ago after a tragedy occured in my life - I given Paxil. It actually made me sleep too much & cry. I went to a different doc who prescribed Effexor. This helped me to concentrate at work and get my life on track. I had to wean myself off of it. I'm just saying that perhaps you need a change in prescription ASAP. Good Luck & Continued Success on your Weight Loss Journey!

That is an incredible weight loss. I am sorry that you are feeling down in the dumps though.
For protein I use Unjury, available on line only. It has 20g protein and around 100 cals. I got the name from the weight loss surgery for dummies book.
As far as solid proteins go, I'm luck in that I love seafood. I take smoked salmon, mush it up and add NF cream cheese. Sometimes I use raw red pepper as a dipping instrument. There is a ton of protein in that.
Oscar Mayer has NF bologna and Kraft has 2% american cheese. 2 slices of bologna and 1 chees = 100 cals. and about 11g protein.
I also like to take deli turkey and spread some LF cream cheese or mustard on it, thin slice pickles, and roll it up like sushi.
I hope that you feel better soon. Feeling low sucks, I know.
Hope this helped.
