Question Buddy System WLS

Hello! I am new to this website and to the world of WLS. My husband and I are both having bypass surgery in August. Has anyone else out there gone through WLS along with their spouse? We are hoping this increases both of our chances for success. But, I'd love to hear your experiences and comments.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

We have a new Social Group for WLS Couples. There are quite a few of us on here who have done it together. Makes for really good mutual support. Drop in and sign up if you'd like.

I had WLS first, then 15 months later my wife had it. Together we've lost about 220 pounds. There are some who have had it together the same day, others who have had the strong one go first to pave the way and the other follow a short time later. If you do it at the same time, make sure you have someone else to take care of you, because neither one of you will feel like taking care of yourself, much less the other! Guys lose a lot faster than you will, so maybe if you went first you could get a head start before he goes blasting past you!!

Good luck! It's a great way to grow together through common shared experiences.

Wow! How nice to get such quick responses! I am still learning where everything is located here and just finished reading Doc's tips for navigation....thanks

Now to find the group "WLS Couples". Sounds like exactly what we need. I'm introducing my husband to this site as I type. I really appreciate the information.

I agree with perfessor, Please if you do the surgery at the same time have someone "able body" around to help at least for the first 3 weeks.. You hurt, you cant walk well, you cant pick up things, you are totally dependent on a helping hand.. I remember how much trouble it was just to get to the bathroom or to take a shower.

Good luck to you both!

I had my surgery on 4-28 and my husband had his on 5-26 I would not of had it any closer together. I am still a little tender on my left side and am almost 6 weeks out. My husband however got around a lot better than I did. I also had a hernia repair so I am not sure if that is why my recovery was a little slower. At 1 week my husband was out cutting the grass 1 ache some of it bumpy. I would not recommend this but he felt just that good. I needed a graber to pick up stuff off the floor for the first month. Just be sure to have someone around that can help you guys if it is needed. Everyone heals differently. Best of luck.
