I thought I would stop by and say hi. My wife is scheuled for vertical sleeve surgery on Feb 14 in just a week. I've been researching this subject for the past few months so I'll know what to expect. She has opted for the Vertical Sleeve Surgery option. We are self pay as our insurance will not pay. We found a center in Baton Rouge that is close to the prices in Mexico so we will be doing the surgery there. I don't have the link right now and I'll post it later in case any one is interested. Since we are self pay I set upa couple of blogs on this subject in hopes of paying for the surgery from revenue off those sites, but that has not worked out very well. We put some money back in a cafeteria plan at work, but we had some bad information and that is not enough to pay for the surgery. We had to borrow money for it, but I think in the end this will work out for the best. Anyway I'm sure I'll be spending some time around here to leanr even more of what to expect post surgery as I have not done any research into that phase as of yet.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. If you are self pay, how much of the pre-op studies that insurance requries have your wife gone through? Jumping through the insurance hoops is not fun and takes time, but often, the hoops helps in giving the patients and drs indications of underlying problems that may need attention, either pre-op or post op. Be sure to attend as many pre op sessions as you can, and attend support meetings as often as you can to ensure success of the surgery. Remember, this surgery is only a tool, it is up to your wife to make the tool work. ((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Thanks for everyone's kind words. As far as the insurance we have done just about everything we can with it. We have been able to get our primary pyschian to do a lot of the preop stuff which is covered by insurance. and since since we are going out of town for the surgery, he will be doing a lot of the post op stuff so that is good. The center is Vista Bariatric Center in Baton Rouge LA incase any one is interested I totally agree about the meetings I've been to two meetings and they where so informative to me. I'll tell the truth, originally I was not behind this surgery. The main reason I was not really behind it was that I did not realize how serious a medical problem morbid obesity was and I did not really even think Jackie was obese. A little big sure, but not too bad. Once I realized what the actual symtoms where and what sort of health issues can be caused by weight issues, I changed my mine. A little education can go a long way in helping you understand items. Thanks to everyone for particpating here its because of places such as this that I have learned alot information about this problem and I know I still have a lot to learn. Thanks Bruce
