| DAY 7 and feeling regret...
Im on day 7 post op of the Gastric Bypass... I new that it would be a huge change but I have found myself feeling regret on the decision to go ahead. I feel separated from everyone... So much of our life is centered around food and Im the only one not eating... I keep waiting for the day when I can actually join my family for dinner.... |

That day will come, I promise you! Right now you're experiencing "buyer's remorse" which so many of us suffer from after surgery. Every day gets a little easier, especially when you see that scale starting to move in the downward direction instead of upwards. Hang in there. We're all here to support you.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
Your feelings at your present stage is quite normal. Just about everyone has gone through it. You are still healing, especially your insides, since it had a major redo, it's going to take 3-4 months until the swelling in your pouch and the separted stomach, especially along the staple lines, go away, and the staple lines merge completely, and your rearranged system realigns and readjusts all the functions.
You need to keep up with your fluids at this stage, as dehydration can cause depression and tiredness among other things.
Just hang in there, come to this board and post as often as you feel like, you will find lots of people who are where you're at, plus lots of people who've been there and done that.
This is as much if not more, a mental journey as it is a physical journey, so take things easy and one day at a time, I'm sure you'll do well.

Hey There,
Things will feel better soon. I found that I would still eat with everyone, I just had a very small (ok, almost non existent portion of whatever I was allowed) or just sat and drank my meal ... that's no fun, but at least it starts feeling a bit more normal than not eating with them at all. I still find that I miss being able to eat what they eat, but then I look at the 70 pounds that I have lost so far and TRULY it is all worth it. I feel so good about ME, that the food becomes way less important.
I am planning my first vacation for a cruise in November and I have actually worried about the eating (when this is usually what I look forward to). This has been hard for me, but just think about what I will look like in that new sexy black dress I bought... Umm, can you say HOT HOT HOT!!! It is just a learning process about how to replace our "food" thoughts with these fantastic thoughts...
Goodluck to you and we are here for you, even when it is tough!

We had a bunch of friends over a few weekends ago and everyone brought food to share. Now I'm nearly 3 years out and can eat most foods (still stay away from sausage/brats/hot dogs!) and to be polite I took the tiniest amount (about 1 teaspoon) of each dish, just enough for one taste. When I sat down at the table my girlfriend commented on how I had learned to get a taste of everything without overdoing it.
Our family and friends get used to us eating like birds, the important thing is that we still join them for a meal, not what we eat.

I went through the same thing about a month out from surgery. I even broke down in tears and told my husband I wish I had never had the surgery because I could not eat anything that was "good". He sympathized - a little. Probably thought I was loosing my mind. But it all passed and now I am 6 months out and down 91 pounds since surgery. Absolutely NO REGRETS now!!!!! The emotions you are feeling are completely normal and, in a few months, you will look back on all this with a smile when you see the "new you" in the mirror. Good luck to you.

I can't comment on buyer's remorse as I've not had WLS, I wanted to, but that looks like it's not going to happen, but here's what I DO know...a lot of where I am with my weight loss has been with the support, encouragement and the occasional push in the right direction from the people on this forum. They are wise, wonderful, and it won't take long till you're one of the crowd, although for going trough surgery to get your health back, I would venture to say you're already wise, and we're all pretty sure you're wonderful!!
Come here for the support you need, when you need it, and enjoy the journey it will be one of the most exciting ones you've ever had!! (promise!) I'll be watching, I know you'll do great things!!
