Hello, I was just given my surgery date. It's both exciting and nerve wracking. Can anyone tell me what I need to do pre-surgery? Supplements? ect....

Your surgeons office will probably have their own requirements. I was required to provide proof that I had purchased a 2 month supply of supplements and vitamins, go on a 2 week liquid diet and additional classwork, testing and physical from my php.

When you go to the hospital you will want to make sure you have lip balm and a pillow for the ride home. I ordered scrubs to wear and still find them to be the most comfortable as my drain site still gives me some discomfort (although they are getting really big now)

your surgeon should have a host of things to start doing including getting your pre-op blood work and a special diet. You could get your house ready by getting all the types of foods you will be able to have for the first 3 weeks and get out the things that no longer should be in your house. Get your vitamins and find a protein drink that you enjoy and then buy a case of it. Buy some pj's that have tops and bottoms (gowns aren't a good idea) that you would feel comfortable walking around the hallways in the hospital. And don't forget your slippers. If you are a light sleeper I would buy some ear plugs for the hospital as well.
Make sure you have comfortable walking sneakers for all the walks you will be taking once you get home. And get ready for a wild ride of your life. It is a hard journey but it gets better every week and every month. Good Luck!

Start right now to live the WLS rules you'll have to follow for the rest of your life. Any good habits you can develop now when you aren't stressed will help you during the post-op learning curve when you are.

I have to disagree about buying a case of protien drinks. After surgery you are going to find that your taste buds change and things that tasted good before will NOT taste good after. You'd be better off buying variety packs that you can try afterwards and find out which one you like and then buy a lot of it. I ended up throwing out tons of protein powders/drinks/bars.
