Default Waiting

Hi all. I have been reading for awhile but this is my first post. I have been waiting for surgery for 6 months and just found out I have to wait another 3-4 months just to start the classes and then possibly another 6 months after that before I can actually have the surgery (due to waiting list). Anyone else have to wait that long and how did you cope? I am so miserable and am so ready to do it!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Good luck with your process.
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

That does seem a rather long wait, where are you located? Also, is the wait due to insurance requirements, or due to the fact that your surgeon/bariatric clinic of choice is overflowing with patients?

I am in Colorado and the insurance requirement is a 6 month wait before starting the classes and then up to another six months before surgery. From what I understand there is a waiting list so the initial six-month wait is now 8-9 months. They are paying for 70% so it will be worth the wait I guess but I need to figure out how to get some weight off in the meantime. The only thing that has helped me lose weight is high protein, low carb diets but I gain it back immediately if I slip up. Any suggestions anyone on how you lost a few before surgery? Thanks.

i started a 7 month supervised diet as required by my insurance in January. I had my last visit August 23rd and was approved 2 days later. I could have been schedule for today actually but i needed to give more notice at work. So, it just might be the surgeon that is running so late...not sure why else you would have to wait so long.

I started by eating the way I would be able to after surgery (ok bigger portions). I added in 1-2 changes at a time, I cut out carbonated beverages and caffeine, I didn't drink within 30 minutes of a meal and I cut out a lot of fried and carbs. I did not binge before my liquid diet as I found out many of the people who had surgery the same day as I did had, I did not necessarily restrict everything but when we ate something I tried to enjoy it fully assuming it would be the last time I ate it.

I noticed the biggest change when I cut out caffeine and carbonation as I didn't have the carb cravings that I normally did.

Good luck!

For some reason it seems like your getting the run around...

I'd call your insurance company and find out exactly what you need to do. I'd start right away and schedule your dietian appointments. Seems that most insurances require 6 visits with a dietian. They must be 30 days apart. The first one doesn't count, so it ends up being 7 total visits.

Is there any chance that you could find another group of doctors/clinic to do your bypass?

Time does fly, but I'd make absolutely sure that all other options, such as another clinic, etc are exhausted before you agree to wait that long.
