| newbie here Hey everyone! I have been here lurking around for about a week now, enjoying reading everyone's posts and learning as much as I can. I have attended the group education seminar and have my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon (09/03/2010). I am very excited to be on this journey and am so ready to get back to living. Just a little bit of my story...I am 38 (very soon to be 39) years old and am married to the best hubby in the world. I have 2 beautiful daughters, 9 and 16. I am extremely blessed and try to not take things for granted. I struggled with my weight in elementary school and a little in middle school. I starved myself in high school and after until I married the first time. I was able to control my weight somewhat then, but only by my emotions as my first husband constantly cheated on me. I finally divorced him and moved back to my hometown where I got re-acquainted with my high school sweetheart, who had also recently divorced due to a cheating spouse. We got married and I have steadily gained weight ever since. I found out I have PCOS when I couldn't get pregnant. I lost a little bit of weight and got pregnant and then had complications through pregnancy. I was on bed rest before and after delivery. I had a problem with my cesarean section healing and was down for 3 months, which did not help my weight problem. A little over 6 years ago, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and was not expected to live more than 2 years. The Lord blessed us by allowing us to have her for 6 years. She lived with us for the whole time and I took care of her. The 6 years were hard, but the last 6 months of her life were extremely difficult. She went on Hospice and I pretty much did nothing but take care of her. I work from home as a medical transcriptionist, so I was able to carry on with my job for the most part until the last 2 months. She was promoted to Heaven on March 7 of this year, and I still miss her desperately. I also gained more and more weight during this time period. Anyway...here I am, over 300 pounds (don't know exactly because I don't have a scale) and I am miserable! I am tired of watching life pass me by. I am tired of not participating in my kids activities. I am tired of not being able to do anything without sweating like a mad woman. I am tired of losing my breath just walking a short, short distance. I am tired of my back hurting all the time. I am tired of having to be a contortionist to wipe my butt (sorry!) I am tired of not being able to sleep well because of sleep apnea. This list could go on and on and on...but I think y'all get the picture. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say and seeing the before and after pics. I am looking forward to having you all along for my journey. (sorry this is so long) Kathy

Hello and welcome to our family. Good luck on this amazing life changing journey. This surgery truly saved my life. Sounds like you have had a ruff few years and I do understand. I lost my mom and dad and I still miss them both... You sound like you have a wonderful family. Read and learn all you can, you can never know too much about this journey. Ask any questions or make post as you want too. Glad to have you...

Welcome to the group. You have found a great place for support. There are people here in all different phases of weight loss/maintenance.
We all understand what you are going through and being 4 weeks out, I don't feel like I have to be a contortionist anymore (and no more pain from trying to be one).
