Bad thing is we can't do anything to reverse this so we must carry on. I am 53 and had my RNY on 8-25-10. Starting weight 288. As of my first post op visit to surgeon I now am 280. Not good with math but at least it is going down. I wish I could offer you some form of comfort but just know that it will pass.
The food smells are awful. I too had to go into a different room when family ate. When I simply opened my fridge or freezer I gagged. I did some research. This is normal and will fade after about a month or so. I have to admit having a husband who drinks beer and chews tobacco I also have these horrible smells in bed at night. I bury my face into my pillow.
I think having two dogs is helping me to push through some of the pain. I am up and moving lots. Use the breathing thing they sent home with you it does help with the pain. Oxygen helps in healing. The more the better. Keep walking (even bent over holding a pillow to your belly) even around the house. Little progress still is progress.
My biggest thing for me is that I love !!!!! water. I gulp it all the time, correction, I used to gulp it all the time. Now I use a toddler's sippy cup to help with the big swigs (my word). I try to always have some ice nearby and never don't get enough protein. Even if it is with juices, apple or cranberry(my favs) mixed with unflavored whey protein it helps with the overall healing process. Protein is needed to promote healing. Keep up the good work and try to focus on the future. It is ours for taking.
