Unhappy Hello

Hi ... My name is Rebecca and I am a 34 year old married mother of two beautiful children Tristan and Olivia. I am currently at my heaviest right now at 333 lbs. I have taken the first steps toward having gastric bypass surgery. I am excited about the weightloss and life changes but I am also extremely nervous and scared about the procedure. I have heard alot of great post op stories but have also heard of poor outcomes after surgery. I have to have this. I cant live like this. It kills me on the inside that I have let myself get into this condition. I now have high blood pressure, I am an insulin dependant diabetic, and my liver counts are high for no other reason than me being over weight. I want to live my life without this weight and make myself healthy for not only me but my kids as well. I dont get to do the activities with them that they want to do because I get so tired and I hurt so bad. I also have sculeosis and several herniated disc in my back that are starting to deteriate. My pain specialist is wanting to insert a morphine pump in my back. The weight doesnt help the pain any. I also have fibromyalgia that I am dealing with. Im hoping to find someone who has a similar story to mine to talk to and help through this process.

Thank you,
Rebecca

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome, Rebecca!!

Nervous is normal, nothing to worry about. Dig around in the archives and you'll get bored reading the many stories of pre-op nerves.

There are a lot of "good news" stories here. There are some stories of trials and challenges and setbacks overcome. We tell it like it is here. Some of the "bad news" stories you've heard may have at one time been related to an actual event, but just like a made-for-TV movie, the story gets better every time it's retold. Discount the vast majority of what you hear and go to the source.

Yes, some people have failed. Yes, some people have died from complications. Medical science has gotten much better with practice, and if you could possibly trace those horror stories to a source, you may find that they refer to events from the early Nixon administration time period.

Make yourself at home here, read everything you can, ask what you don't know, and we'll help guide you every step of the way. We've been there and understand. You'll find out later just how valuable that is.

We're all here for you and most of us were very nervous before having the surgery. As the Perfesser said, read everything you can. Good luck!

Welcome Rebecca!! You found a wonderful group of people for support with this group. I think almost everyone will admit to being nervous, afraid of being one of the statistics (even though the risks are pretty low anymore) and most of all afraid of failing.

Knowledge is your friend, the more you know what to expect, the better prepared you will be.

I don't have all of your issues, but I do have fibromyalgia and arthritis in my back(among other places) I have found that for the most part, my sleeping has improved since surgery but I still have days that even with my meds I can't get to sleep but the nights that I am able to sleep I am out until morning and it is a nice deep sleep. I have always been pretty lucky with my fibromyalgia in that I can control the pain by controlling my sleeping. I have had very few really achy days since surgery and they probably correlate to the nights I didn't sleep well.

Good luck and feel free to pm me if you want.

Default Hi

Wow, you got a lot on your plate. I have some of that fibro stuff too. Reading and asking questions is best. How does your dr feel about you wanting to do this? Would it effect your disks; it would probably relieve them huh? Just research, read and ask questions and. It may be a few months or more before you get all of the required tests and procedures done but the time and effort you put in to it will help to determine whether or not you are serious about a leap like this. You will find support her for every set of your journey. Nice to meet you!!
