Smile Just Found the Site!

Hello all,

I just found this site and it seems to be a great resource. I just had the laproscopic gastric bypass surgery on 2/23/07. There were complications after my surgery and I had internal bleeding. I lost over half my blood and had to have blood transfusions and the doctor had to open me up (18" long) to stop the bleeding. I was in ICU for 4 days...very scarey! Anyone getting the surgery just needs to remember that complications are a real thing and can happen. My doctor has done thousands of these procedures and this was the first time he has ever cut anyone without knowing it and experiencing this complication.

I finally got all 50 staples out yesterday...what a relief!

I am having a lot of problems finding a way to squeeze in all the protien and water into the day. I have been experimenting with pureed foods, buy haven't found anything that tastes good. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hope things are going well for you now. I can't imagine how scary that must have been. I had my surgery a couple days after you - it'll be nice to keep in touch with somebody who's experiencing things in the same time frame as myself. I'm trying the mushy foods myself and can't stand my options. I mostly eat cottage cheese and scrambled eggs with pureed salsa. I keep reminding myself ' it will only be for a couple of weeks'. I have to say, my only problem with water is that I can't drink as much as I'd like as fast as I'd like. Guess it's just going to take time to get used to. See you around.

Default Nice to meet you.

I am a newbie here myself, I find it a true blessing to have found this site. I Have recently decided to do an imaginary gastric bypass and cut my calories down to about 1100. I have done pretty good so far with it..I am afraid to weigh.

My insurance will not hear of having the surgery. I am anxious to walk the journey with you....

Linda

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Hopefully you have gone through all the bad and will only have good things happen from now on.
I wasn't allowed solid foods until 2 mos out and no fruits and veggies for 3 mos. It seemed like forever at the time but looking back it was a blip on the screen.
I got most of my protein from Unjury, a protein drink. I also ate tuna and smoked salmon. Good luck on your journey.

Welcome, Angela!! I'm also new here. Just getting to know everyone. So sorry to hear that you had troubles. Glad things were able to be resolved.

It's hard in the liquid/puree stage. Nothing really tasted great to me anyway. I did best with cottage cheese and yogurt mostly. It will get easier to get the protein in. Just do what you can and don't forget that water...sip, sip sip!!

HUGS,
Christine
