| Guess this is where we post our stories - so here's mine. I, like so many people here, have always loved food. I've struggled with weight since puberty. I would gain 20 lbs then just as quickly lose it. I was never really thought of as 'fat' but just a little chubby (5'6" tall and 145 lb top weight). After high school, I became a nanny, and with the extra money I treated myself to every type of food I wanted. I reached 165 lbs and realized something had to change. I started exercising 2.5 hours a day and eating an extremely strict low-fat diet which resulted in a 40 lb weight loss. I met my husband at 20, and married at 21. My husband was with the Air Force, so within a month we moved. I had no family, friends and worst of all no gym. I became very depressed, and sought solice in an old friend - food. I gained weight steadily over the next 8 years. My husband was no longer in the military, we had a beautiful new home, and we wanted to have children. Our only concern was the weight - would it be healthy for me to get pregnant at 265 lbs? After an 'ok' from an ob/gyn we started trying. 2 months out, I was pregnant. I only gained 10 lbs through the first 32 weeks. Then I gained 25lbs in 4 weeks. I was pre-eclamptic. I delivered only 3 weeks early, but he was alot smaller than the doctor's expected (5 lbs 9 oz - normal but just barely). I vowed I would not get pregnant again until I had lost a substantial amount of weight. My son is a healthy active 3 yr old (well, 3 in April). I feel that I have missed out on so much with him already. I can't do most of the things I was able to do as a nanny. Even something as simple as getting on the floor to play hurt my back and hips. I have spent thousands of dollars on gym memberships and diet programs over the years, and I've been unable to experience any lasting results. My husband was so against having the surgery that I didn't even bring it up. He was afraid he might lose me. Finally, a few months ago he saw an infomercial about the lap band. He told me maybe he'd consider it if it was something I wanted. I did alot of research and came up with a surgeon with the kind of program I wanted. My husband and I went to an information seminar. After hearing all the pros and cons, we both agreed that the lap RNY was the best plan for me. So here I am, dozens of tests and office visits behind me: I climbed on the table Feb 26, 2007. I woke up thinking 'what the h-e-double-hockey- sticks did I just do?' The pain wore off after a couple days, and I'm on the way to a new life. I've lost 36 lbs since I started the liquid diet pre-op, and I can now get on the floor with my son. I can't wait to find out what other accomplishments will come with the rest of my weight loss. I've made a list of things I want to do: take my son camping in a tent, ride the rides at Disney with him, try for baby #2 - well, the list is just too long to put here, but you get the idea. I know I'm going to need lots of support - and I know I can find it here. |

| Super Moderator | Congratulations on your loser's journey. Sounds like you've made a very good head start. It's wonderful to hear about your husband and your family, and that you'll be able to able to be the Mom you want to be for your son. So, what about putting up your list of want to dos in the AFTER WLS:"Can't wait fors" thread, where many people have their lists up, and come back time after time, to check off the ones they've accomplished, add new ones on the way. You'll need to wait for 2 years if possible, but I for one will be looking forward to hearing about a brother or sister for your son in the future, too. (((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

| Thanks for the warm welcome. I just realized how long that post is - so thanks for taking the time to read it. Hope someday I can be as helpful and informed as so many here seem to be - until then I'll be asking alot of questions. Thanks, in advance, for your support and patience with all the newbies such as myself. |

| Hello Michele! Welcome to the forum! I can relate to so many things you mentioned in your story, the saddest being, I believe missing out on opportunities with our children due to our weight. I wish I had had this opportunity when my children were smaller...but no use dwelling on that. I am so much better now. I'm 4 months post op and have lost 60 pounds. I will have many new opportunities to enjoy with my family. Hang in there. As the motto on my sig says "It's never too late to be who you want to be" It sounds like you are having a great journey so far!
