Hello!
I am new to the site, but looking forward to meeting some new friends to help me out with this new way of life! I am also starting a 12-step group through my doctors office for overeating and am looking forward to working on this with a group as well...

I am a bit nervous about the pain after the surgery...any advice you have - I will gladly take!

Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Are you having RNY? If so the gas pains were worse than the surgery pain for me and walking REALLY helps. I went back to work a little over a week after surgery and wasn't in any pain but VERY tired (it was too soon) I had my surgery Friday morning and was home by Sunday afternoon(I had some issues with my blood sugar going to low). All in all everyone is different but it wasn't that bad!

Oh yeah, walking asap helps with the gas pain. the actual surgery pain was not bad. make use of the pain relief to make sure you are comfy and not suffering! but (with advice from your surgeon) get up as soon as you are allowed and slowly slowly walk it out. you will also hear this alot: sip sip sip, walk walk walk. very good advice!
you will be fine. Its a big deal but its all worth it

Pain meds generally work wonders, many people don't have to take anything after they leave the hospital, but others deal with discomfort longer.

It is major surgery so you will be uncomfortable for a while and need to take it easy long enough to heal.

I don't know of anyone that would change things after having the surgery, although buyers remorse is common in the first couple of weeks to a month.

I started implementing the rules many months prior to surgery and was even using protein drinks for breakfast before I hit the liquid diet, and I added the protein drink for lunch a week or so prior to going all liquid.

It seems like it is forever from when you start the process but it will be here before you know it.

Good Luck!

Welcome, and congratulations on a life-changing decision.

I have to say that finding a group like this to bounce things off of has got to be a great thing.

Some of the 12-step principles come in handy post-op, though I never would have put that together on my own. Fellowship in general is a good thing.

I had my surgery on friday. It is painful, but nothing too difficult. You will do fine, just walk and sip. You really won't feel any issues until you get home, so stay there unless you absolutely need to go home. You won't regret it!
