Hi Everyone-

Someone told me this was a good online forum for support, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm a bit confused about the threads and organization, but hopefully over time, I will figure it out.

I had lap band two years ago in February. It has been satisfying to see this weight come off again--hopefully for the last time. But for the past months, I have been struggling with food issues, beating myself up for not getting to my goal, feeling bad because I don't think I ever can reach the BMI the stats say I should be, feeling resentful because I hate being locked into a number that sends me negative messages about myself (that's how I perceive BMI), feeling fat, etc.

Anyway, that's why I am here. I need some more support and to know there are other people like me. I can never make the live support groups at my hospital and they are too infrequent anyway. So I'm needy, okay?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Thanks, Summer! I need to keep being told I'm doing great because the scale and BMI charts don't tell me that. I know I should not get hung up on that, but alas...

Still trying to understand the organization of this forum. Should I just go to the latest post section from the home page?

Welcome to RR! It is a GREAT place here. Take your time to figure things out, I found it a bit hard at first, but now, no probs. If you want to find info, use the search near the top right and type in a keyword/s and it will search the forums for the threads already posted on it, or just ask. once you get a handle on it, you will see how it all works. Photos etc can be a little tricky, so just ask and someone can help or again, use the search.
B<I....the dirty ol' BMI....That is just what it is, a load of numbers that can make you feel fat and confused and bad. It should be a guide only. As long as you feel good, are healthy/enough, happy, and like the weight you are, BMI can be thrown out the window. Ignore it for the most part, but look at yours for example: gone from 39 to 27! thats a great change
If you have been letting things slip a little, maybe revamp of what you are doing is in order? shake it up a bit... I hope you stick around as you will find all sorts of info, handy tips, different ways, opinions etc etc, And we all have a common goal. If you ask for advice, you will get honest advice or opinions, and you may learn a diff way which works for you.
Glad you are here.

Hello and welcome to our family. I struggle with the same problem. My dictation told me the other day that bmi does not take in to concentration that we are all different. Different body structures and other things like age has a lot to do with what our bodies conceder the "right" place to be. As you can see I have not made it to goal either. I am still trying hard to make it. I feel great where I am and I am going to the gym and things seem to be toning up a bit. I am 60 and I know that I will never have the body of a 30 year old but you know what it is ok. Things are so much better in my life and I feel like I can live life to the fulliest again.
This is a wonderful site. It has been my support from the beginning. Looks like you are doing great.

Dixie, I see we are about the same height and weight with similar goals. That makes me hopeful.

I hear BMI isn't even being used by groups like the military because it doesn't take into account differences. I have a large build (I am not kidding--my wrists are large, my feet are big, and I have broad shoulders...this is not just the "I have big bones" excuse). I don't know how I would look if I reached the BMI they are recommending. I have never been able to lose weight in the saddle bag area. I would end up losing it more up top and my shoulders and clavicle are already pretty well defined. I don't know. I am going to keep at it but I have to learn not to beat myself up so much. I definitely feel better physically than I did prior to the weight loss! So I have to keep up that positive reinforcement.

Thanks, all for the encouragement!
