Jill, congratulations on beating the grim reaper!! With what you've been through, WLS should be a breeze!!
The first place to start is to go to the
ASMBS website and locate a Bariatric Center of Excellence near you. There are surgeons who do this on the side with a bunch of other stuff, and there are surgeons who specialize in it and go through the rigorous qualification procedures to show that they're among the best. There should be a COE near you in Denver.
Call the COE up or visit their website and find out when they have informational seminars. These are free. At the seminar they will explain the different types of WLS and what circumstances each is best in. They'll also tell you what the process is to make it happen. And you may meet one of the surgeons in the practice.
A COE will have an insurance co-ordinator who can find out all about what your insurance will cover and what the requirements are.
Do as much research as you can. This is a huge decision, not to be made lightly. It can change your life!! Most of us had the RNY (gastric bypass). We have some sleevers here and some banders, and some exceptional people who have had similar results to ours without surgery. There's a lot of experience here waiting to answer your questions.
Spend a lot of time in the archives, use the Search function, learn all you can. This is not the "easy way" some think it is. This may be one of the hardest things you've ever done. But it will be one of the most worthwhile, too.
Good luck!!
