| A new me -- Hello I am totally new to this site
Hello I am totally new to this site. Dont know really what Im
doing.
I had surgery 3 weeks ago yesterday. On April 11th. Going good
so far I think. Hard to tell.
Was just wondering from others. How long were people out of
work? I was told a month and I am scheduled to go back next
week. But some days Im just so beat. They tell me its my iron
levels. Some days I have lots of enegry and other days I dont.
I go on a 1.5 mile walk every morning after I get my kids on the
bus so I think thats good.
My other question to you seasoned veterans is: In the beginning
did you not want to eat sometimes? Some days Im just like not
wantign to eat or drink my protein shakes. Is that normal.
Thanks everyone.......A New Me. |

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratultaions on having joined the Loser's Bench, and hope you feel at home here.
I have moved your post and given you an independent thread as all newbies deserve and independent thread when saying hi to all, and you'll get more responses to your Q in your post, as well.
If you have any Qs, please post them in the Stupid Qs forum, you'll get lots of answers there. Also, check out the same forum first if you have any Qs, you may find someone else has already asked, and find answers for you already there.
Also check out the following thread, the thread starter had pretty much point on point Qs, and I have put up point on point As there, this may help you with some answers. http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...r-surgery.html
Immediately after surgery, it's quite common that you don't feel like eating at all, and very hard to get in the protein shakes as your taste will be completely off for a while. Do try to get in as much water as you can, though, to prevent dehydration.
((((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

I'm pretty new as well. My surgery was Monday, so I can't really answer any of your questions. I was told that most of my surgeons patients go back in a week. I was like A WEEK!!!! I at least want 2 weeks!!!! Even then, I won't be back on regular foods yet. I think that is early, but the girl in the office said, yes, but he needs a "reason" to keep you home. So, I figured I would talk to him about it when I go for my week follow up. And again, I know I'm only a few days out, but I'm not hungry at all either!! I haven't started my protein shakes yet. I will do that in week 2. Good luck!!!

Thanks to DocSane and Chilly for responding to me. I do appreciate it.
DocSane, Im so confused. You mentioned an indepdent thread. How do
I get there and also, how can I update my profile. I see that others
have on the left side where they live and surgery date and etc...sorry
for all the questions but Im not the greatest on the computer.
Chilly, Wow you just had surgery on Monday. Monday this week? Like
3 days ago? Good for you and congrats.
So your supposed to go back to work in a week. Wow. My doctor took
me out for just about 3 1/2 weeks. And Im still not 100% ready to go
back I dont think. I still get very tired some days. Good luck with your
new journey.

Yes, this past Monday April 30th! I was shocked when he asked if I wanted to go home Tuesday. I guess I was doing so well with my walking and stuff, that he asked me. I told him, sure, I would be more comfortable at home, but I wanted what was "safe" for me. He assured me that everything looked fine and I could go home if I chose to do so. I did, and I slept so good that night. I have some help here at home with my kids, so that is a God send. But I make sure I get up and walk around the house several times a day. And also do my breathing exercises too. Not to misunderstand me, the girl in the office had said typically his patients go back in a week. I still have to go see him Tuesday, and see what he says, but I am going to ask for at least 2 weeks off. I think we need that time to get used to the "new you". I really don't like the idea of starting on solids at work, and throwing up and stuff, but I guess I will deal with it. Good luck to you in your journey! We're in this together!!! And I'm SOOO excited to be on the loser's bench!!

By independent thread, I meant this thread, which I split your post from where you originally posted, and made your first post into a thread for you.
For links, just click on the blue letters and you will be taken to whatever is linked there. Any letters in blue in a post is linked to something else, unless the poster has chosen blue as the color to be used in the post.
As for modifying your profile, go to your UserCP--the button is up on the left in the navigation bar up above.
For the techincal how tos, check out the Tech Q forums, and I have also put up a How to Navigate through the Board thread in Coffee Talk, so, if you need any techincal/where's what Qs about this board, check them out, and if can't work things out, then please post whatever Qs you have either in Stupid Qs, or other appropriate places.
I hope this will make things a bit easier for you to figure out.

Hey Chilly,
So I would say your doing good. I too slept so good the first night I got home. I spent 2 nights in the hospital. but like you said, I slept so much better at home. Im sure your doctor will extend your work leave for you. I have been home just about 3 weeks now. My biggest problem is some days I get so tired. They said its due to low iron counts. They started me on my
iron/vitamin pills at my 1 week post-op. They told me I have to be on them for the rest of my life. Not sure if your doctor will perscribe them or not. But I got the perscription at one week out. I also got my staples out that day too and had some blood work done too.
Thats good that you have help at home too. How old are your kids?
Yeah I know what you mean about changing your diet and eating at work and etc....Wont be good to get sick or not feel well at work. Im on phase two of my diet program. Its protein shakes and purred stuff. not to bad. Hard part is remembering to eat very slowly.
What diet phase are you on right now?

I had my surgery 10 days ago, and I am doing fine, I have not had any problems with being tired. But don't go by me I have a strange body, I had 2 c-sections and was back to work, part time, in two weeks as soon as I was cleared to drive.
My doc allows you to go back to work 1-2 weeks after surgery depending on how your feeling. I am going back to work Monday.
I don't know how I am going to handle the transition to solids but I guess I will deal with it.
Roz
