Default Surgery questions

I am kind of new here, been floating around reading different forums. I am in the process of getting all of my paperwork together to send to the insurance company. Only thing I have left to do is go to a support group meeting and find 1 more year of weight history.
I have a couple of questions that I want to ask. If you have laproscopic RNYGBS, how long are you normally out of work? Has anyone had any problems with being sick (nausea, vomiting, etc) and not getting better from it after surgery? Do most people experience hair thinning after surgery or only a small percentage? My surgeon said that only a few of his patients experience this. I can't wait to go to my 1st support group meeting on Saturday.
There's a part of me that is still scared and apprehensive about the surgery and another part that wants to have it TODAY!!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

HI welcome to the forums and im glad you found the courage to post
your concerns......

FOR me my surgeon wanted me to be out of my work for 2 weeks but i returned just a few days earlier against his wants. IT really depends also
on the kind of work you do....I just made 100 percent certain i didnt lift
while i worked and recovered and made sure i took it easy.

As far as vomitting, i had my phases with this but i feel it was mostly my doing. I am bad with the eating slo and chewing thing. I am totally not phased by throwing up so i never stressed on it when it happened. BEING nearly 2 years out i definitely vomit far less then ever. CERTAIN foods, like
chinese takeout gets me no matter what i have or how slow i eat it but i
still keep trying it over and over ...just me i suppose. My first months had its share of nasuas to the point certain smells would make me sick but i just delt with it and over time that has gone away.

HAIR thinning i had bad starting between 3 and 4 months lasting thru 12 months. I even was on BIOTIN well before surgery. ITs a tuff stage, but
i didnt go totally bald like a cancer patient might from treatment it was just
thinning and thinning alot and daily. IT grows back and im finally at the stage of it looking better again. I imagine my hair fits well on the smaller me. and that helps some too. I dont know the statistics on the hair loss but all people i know get this at some point just the length it lasts varies.

ITs normal to be nervous, it is an elective major surgery........but i felt the risks of the surgery out weighed my risks in everyday life at 310 lbs. I was a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen at any moment. NOW im healthy!!!!
HONESTLY, i love my support meetings that i go to weather ones that my surgeon offers of people i have met along my journey. ITS helpful totally but sometimes my new thin life becomes so busy i just cant get to them as much as i would like too!!!!!
HANG in there! AND keep in touch on the board its a great source of help thru the ups and downs this journey will bring your way!

Hello there,

Im new to this site also. I has surgery only 3 weeks ago. Im doing well
at least I think I am. My doctor had me stay out of work for a month. I
go back next week. I feel good. Some days Im a bit tired but they say
that is due to low iron counts. Im on vitamins for this. I feel that I am
ready to go back.
I luckily have not been nauseated at all. Well I take that back. In the
hospital I was. But I think that was the morphine they had me on. But now that Im home I have been ok. They gave me anti nausea meds to come home with and I have not taken a one. I am very carfeful when I eat. Its hard to eat slowly like they tell you. Ive come close a few times eating too fast and start to feel a little funky but then I remember to slow down. Right now Im on protein shakes and pureed foods.
I have not had any hair problems yet but like I said, Im only 3 weeks out still. Im a bit nervous about this part. But I feel this would be a small
part to deal with. Afterall Im on my way to being a heathier me.
I too was very nervous about the surgery and all. A few times thru my journey, my journey took about 9 months. Lots of appoitments with nutritionsist and pych visits and etc...., I kept thinking, no Im scared and dont want to do this. But I made the decision and went thru it. So far Im very happy with my decision.
Good luck with your support group this Saturday and dont be afraid to ask questions. Think positive.
