Talking This is all new for me

Well this is my first time posting as a member on RenewedReflections and I'm excitted.

I've been overweight all my life and after all this time I have taken the initiative to change my life for the better. I've attended a 12 week Option class in Corona, Ca and have completed all my medical lab test and my physic evaluation. I am also attending a great spport group twice a month. I've been eating smaller portions and exercising which have given me a successful 33lb weight loss. But what I'm most excitted about is that I recently got my surgery date of Jan. 25th, 2012. Praise God.

Any advise as to what I should be doing along with being on a no carbs and high protein diet until surgery date. And trying not to gain any weight?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I want to thank everyone for your helpful & kind responds to my introduction.
Right now like all of us I'm trying to get through all these holiday parties with cakes, cookies and other scrumpous dishes. I try to make wise choices and watch my quanties so I don't over eat. It's been a little difficult to exercise because of the busy season and the cold nights and mornings here in Moreno Valley, CA.
I have two more weeks of holiday celebrations and temptations. Starting Jan 1st, 2012 it's time to take the next 25 days serious. No carbs, high proteins, portion sizes, vitamines, water increase and kick up my exercise routine.
I'm determine to be right for my surgery. Keep me in your prayers.

I think I would suggest to try to get "used" to the new life style, now.
Before surgery, I cut down on food and lost some weight. I also remember thinking, I can "just" do this on my own.... but I went ahead with surgery because I was tired of the Yo Yo effect. Try to relax, and keep breathing and just take it in every day... You have done well with 33 lbs off!!! Try to commit to regular exercise/movement in your daily schedule. I think that has made
a big difference for me.
GOOD LUCK!!! Let us know how you are doing. Keep posting.

Welcome to the board! It sounds like you have Kaiser (so do I). What doctor did you decide to go with?

The biggest thing I recommend that you continue to do is eat smaller portions. In the options classes, they strongly recommend that. I did and it really helped with the emotional side post surgery. I also recommend that you start trying out different protein supplements now so you know what you like. Dont buy large quantities though, because your tastes may change after the surgery. I also recommend looking into unflavored and savory protein supps because you may develop an aversion to sweets after the surgery (i did). Unjury brand is highly recommended for that. I just learned about them about a week ago and Im still waiting for my product to arrive. I wish I had known about them all along.

It sounds like you are doing really well just preparing so far. You dont have to completely cut out carbs right now, just make healthier decisions...a little brown rice instead of white rice etc. after the surgery, you'll be on a liquid diet and wont be able to eat carbs for awhile (i think you can have a piece of toasted bread 1 mo out). After you've transitioned and are able to eat almost anything, you will still have to make smart food choices.

A question for "Pretty Woman", how do you feel being almost a yr. post surgery and the lost of 129lbs.?
Memanie6, my west coast Dr is Dr. Suh, he is well known here in the Inland Empire.
I gathered a very large sum of information from my Options classes but sometimes I have to review my heavy manual to revive my WL skills. I currantly use Nestle Boost High Protein Powered Mix, 14g. I normally make a smoothie w a half banana and it's great. I've also tried Atkins Advantage 15g protein drink, a little thick & sweet. I'll look into the Unjury brand that was mentioned. Good news about the carb intake. I've still try to cut back some.
I woke up this morning and went to the gym right away for a 45min work out.
I'll try to committ to some kind of exercise everyday even if it is my green rubberband workout for my arms and stomick. I read that this is a "Life Long Journey". I'm going to embrace everyday of it. Like a New Birth.
