Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | hello and welcome! I have become hypoglycaemic since my WLS and what I found which helped to not wake up in the 50's is to eat something RIGHT before bed. Especially when I was hard into my training I had to eat all the way up to bedtime or I had a very tough time waking up. Took a while to figure out it was because my glucose would often be 55 or less!!! Lucky to wake up for sure! Everyone is different but I found if I had milk, which NOT everyone can tolerate post op, before bed with a whole grain bread (1/4 of a slice) with PB on it made sure I'd get up in the morning and be at least in the 70's to start my day. -bree

| Super Moderator | Hi, welcome to the board, thank you for joining us, and congratulations on joining the loser's bench. The first thing you must do is call the only person who can give you viable advice, your dr--the one who is treating your diabetes, be it an endocrionologist or your PCP. That said, are you still on diabetes medication? If so, it is time to have either the dosage reduced, or be taken off them completely, so you must ask your dr. Even if you are completely off your meds already, you must let your dr know what is going on and ask his/her advice. Certain patterns in eating, like getting protein in first, will help in keeping your blood sugar levels stable. I take it your surgery is RNY. It seems, by bypassing the first portion of the small intestines, diabetes is resolved, not only by eating less and losing weight, but by the changes in the digestive hormones and metabolism, so, often bypass patients see immediate decrease of blood glucose levels. So much, that some surgeons have started to term this kind of surgery as "metabolic" surgery, and are suggesting surgical resolution of diabetes. (((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

| HELLO RICHARD, I to, think Doc would be the best with the numbers. I have had several bouts with that same thing lately. I am not diabetic, but the other night I was sitting there, and got hot so I kicked off my loafers thinking I was just warm. Then, I started to sweat, get very sleepy, and almost felt drunk, so to speak. I asked the wife to take my blood sugar for the heck of it, and she did. It was 46. It kinda was a panic for a second for both of us, and she ran to her purse and got a little peice of chocolate and told me to eat it. I now, laugh at what I said. I told her H*** if I am eating that. I would rather go into a coma. Not really, thinking about it now, but to make a long story short, I ended up eating a small bowl of cereal, and that bumped up my number considerably. It was very scary, but now, if I feel that way, I eat a little something, and that does the trick. I am also alot calmer about it as well. Just had to share my similar story with you. Welcome to the boards, once again Richard, and I hope to get to know you a little better. mike |

5' 6" Height: | Hi Richard, welcome. I'm surprised your Dr. didn't warn you about your #'s dropping after your surgery. I was off all meds. within 2 weeks of my WLS. I even had trouble adjusting with the warning having low #'s twice. Be careful and have some gloucose pills around until you get things straight. Good luck.
