Default 1st post op appt - my dh ratted me out!

I had my first post op appt today and my dh went too. In a nutshell, he basically told my doctor that I still get dizzy, Im not drinking enough water, not getting enough protein in my diet, still need meds, cant sit upright very long, cant walk more than 20 mins without lortab, still cant tie my own shoes, still need help getting out of bed in the morning, and that I passed out after I came home from the hospital. Granted he ratted me out because I was supposed to return to work on Monday and Im clearly not ready, and he wanted to make sure the doc knew EXACTLY what Im going through.

Well, it worked. Not only did I get a gentle reprimand because of my lack of fluid and protein intake (im working on it, really I am). He made my get blood work done to check my electrolites and make sure nothing else funky is going on inside me. He told me that if I continue on this path, I will have to be admitted to the hospital because if Im not already dehydrated I will be soon. He also told me that my body doesnt respond well to pain (ya think, lol). He also extended my off work order for another 3 weeks. I have to see him in 3 weeks and my off work order may be extended even further.

My dh was trying to help, but I cant help but feel that my surgeon was disappointed with the progress of my recovery. I wish that I was one of those people that bounced right back after major surgery, but clearly Im not. On the upside, he was really happy with my weight loss so far.

Oh, and bTW, I ratted my dh out at his 1st post op appt because he did too much too soon...he went to disneyland 1 week post-op and GOT ON THE RIDES! I guess ratting me out was fair game, lol.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I don't know him, but I like him already!! Your husband has got your back, and he wants to be sure that you get the best care. How's the doc gonna know what you need if no one tells him what's happening?

As for you ratting him out earlier - I think you two have the makings of a fantastic mutual support system!!

I'm with Perfessor. I like DH. Eventually you'll see that he really had your best interest at heart.

Sounds like he did it out of love! Don't worry about disappointing your doc. He just wants to make sure you stay healthy and safe through all of this.

Default 1 week post on Monday

I understand your challenges this first week! I thought I was alone. Glad I joined site and staring reading about others who were in their first week, now I feel better about my challenges. Praise God I'm not vomiting, fainting or having trouble walking. My biggest problem is drinking water! It's a BEAST! I can do crushed ice, sugar free Popsicles and shaved ice but water just gives me the waves in my stomach. I also just hate crushing meds and opening capsules but I found they go down better with applesauce then liquids. And let's not mention the inability to pass the mountains of gas built up...walking and stretching has been the key for my gas pain survival. Anyone with first week suggestions please blog!

Im not mad at him, he's way too cute to be angry with him. I knew he did it with my well being at the forefront of his mind.

perfesser, starting a new life - you would like this guy. He's a great big, sweet, hard-working, teddy bear with an awesome personality. We're going on 21 yrs together and we make a fantastic team.
