Weight Loss Method Duodenal Switch | Hey everyone, Im new here so I thought I would say hi... HI I live in Binghamton, NY, which is about 200 miles north of NYC. I had an open Roux-en-Y done in 2002, which was a complete failure. The doctor made the pouch to big, and I ended up with a massive infection, due to a leak somewhere in there. The surgeon never told me I had a leak, nor did he make any attempt to repair it, I didnt know it at the time, but, I was lucky to live thru it. After going through all that, I only lost 50 pounds, which i have regained, plus an additional 50 to boot. The good news, is that surgeon lost his lience to perform bariatric surgery, so at least he can't hurt more people. As I stated I have gaind 100 pounds since i had that surhery, and as a result, I am no longer able to work, due to bad knees, shortness of breath, and a buldging disc, that causes major pain in my lower back and legs. know that if I don't do something soon, I will not live much longer, so I began looking for another surgeon in my area that does revision surgery. There are none anywhere near me, so I went to NYC. I met with the chief of bariatric surgery at NY-Presbyterian Hospital. After he looked at my records and examined me, he decided that due to the first surgey being such a mess, that a revision, would not do anything for mr. So we decided to do a closed duodenal switch. I don't have a date yet, but as soon as I get clearence from my local doctors, and 3 cat scans done, I will get the date. Has anyone here had a duodenal switch , or gone to NY-Presbyterian Hospital? Any info would be helpful Thanks Keith

| Big Loser | Hi Keith, My situation is so what like yours. I had a gastric stappling done back in 1983 that failed and I am now up to 356 lbs. I believe that the DS is the best surgery for me. I have seen my surgeon who is in Houston Tx and have been waiting to hear from insurance company. Well they turned me down yesterday so I am going to have to appeal it. But I hear that the DS is a very good surgery for those of us who need revisions done. It is what I want and I am going to fight it all the way. So keep moving forward with yours I hear lots of good things about the DS. There is duodenalswitch.com that you can also check out they have good info there. I wish I had more info to give you but I know that it is the surgery for me if I can only get it approved. |
