Red face Beginning my journey after R-n-Y Bypass...

Hello Everyone,

I am 21 years of age and had my surgery on December 22nd, 2011, about three weeks ago Thursday. I had Diabetes Type II before the surgery and have been off the meds ever since!! I am doing well so far having lost about 25 pounds but the cravings are KILLING ME. I am actually still on the puree diet and will be for another two weeks so this is torturous. I really needed some added support so I decided to look for people's stories like mine online and here I am! Please don't hesitate to give me advice about ANYTHING!

Blessings,

Brittany

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Brittany!! Welcome to your new family. This is the greatest place ever for support and advice with tons of smart folks . Those cravings are a killer, aren't they? You're experiencing head hunger..what drives all of us to overeat, eat when we aren't hungry, emotionally eat- and it's sucky! It's always going to lurk there somewhere. So, I would suggest trying to recognize what this is at the time and try some form of distraction- drink some water or crystal light for flavor, give yourslef 10 minutes away from the temptation to let the craving subside. This is a journey, not a race- you'll lose lots, have stalls, make mistakes and poor choices along the way. It's all part of the new life you've made for yourself. Stay strong, walk, sip, get rid of anything that tempts you in your kitchen and visit us often. You've got this, girl!!

You'll be better once you can start chewing. It's not much longer. When they told me I could eat soft foods I was excited, I made meatloaf. It was the best tasting thing. Also the cravings when it's period time are horrible. At least for me. Good luck!

Are you getting your protein in? Protein helped me feel "full."
Try to get some food/puree etc in every 2 to 3 hrs in small amounts: like 2 oz...hungry or not.
Journal what you eating, too. Sometimes your brain takes over and if "it" can see what you are taking in it might help you reason you aren't hungry...
(Well, it is worth a shot.) Hang in there, once you do start "chewing" again you will be happy as well.

Default Thank you all soooo!!!

Wow I am almost in tears as I write this because I needed people to understand how I feel that have been through the same things as I have! Thank you so much for the advice! You have no idea how much this is encouraging me! I look at Mary and see similarities in beginning weight and height which gives me great hope in that she's already lost 64 pounds!! WOW! I am so excited to continue my journey wih you all!

(And the cravings advice was priceless! I definitely haven't been getting enough protein. I literally have to make myself drink the shakes because I don't like force feeding myself, especially the glucose control Boost and Glucerna)

Congratulations for starting this journey so young. Most of us wish we had begun years ago. You seem highly motivated, so you should do fine. Please let us know how you are progressing.

When you can eat soft food,
a lot eat refried beans with cheese and salsa (you can have this at Taco Bell too...nice to be able to order out...)
My girlfriend would cook chicken and put it in the processer with broth. When it got mushy, she put it in the micro with some cheese. She called it her chicken goo and said it saved her many a night.
Hope this helps. In the meantime, keep drinking the protein and you will feel better.
