| 11 days since surgery
I am 11 days post surgery and so ready to eat something. I have been on this liquid diet since December 23 rd and not sure how much longer I have to go. I've been questioning if I've done the right thing as this seems like a slow process of healing from the surgery.
As I read posts from everyone it encourages me to keep going forward and not look behind. I just wish I could figure out what else I can have to drink/eat on this liquid diet.
Anyone have suggestions?

I wish I could offer some advice on the liquid diet options - I'm sure others here will have a lot of good advice for you.

Hi Anna, I had the same problem, I am three weeks out tomorrow.
The best thing I did was talk to my nutritionist; you are almost 2 weeks post op...so things will change soon for you I wasnt getting enough calories in, still am having trouble, but I keep tellign myself that I will progress in my own time.
As far as things to drink, the protien shakes and Whey protien shots really started getting to me too, I had my surgery Dec 29th, and started pureed foods, Friday Jan 13th, I was so happy to get some "other" source of protien other then shakes, and poweder.
Every day is a process of planning what you will drink, eat, vitamins, protien intake, walking, I mean WHOA!!! this is alot, and I had a bit of a melt down thinking to myself, well hell I could have done this without the surgery...but them I remember, I remember the bloated unhealthy, me, pre-surgery, th eone that was very inflammed, the one that was borderlien diabteic, the one that was one bad meal away from a massive heart attack, or stroke...and I say I will drink what I need to drink, I will take what I need to take, because I made a committment to myself that I am NOT going out this way, I have taken control of my life, and you have now too, take it one day at a time, one baby step at a time, and know that the liquid is for your own good, that your new stomach needs to heal, needs to be fully functional for you so you can be the best lean mean fat burning machine on teh planet...
That is what keeps me going...no matter how weak I am or how frustrated I get, I did this to change my life and my health, and I am so glad that I did.
Cheers fellow traveler, you got this!

I'm 5 months out, obviously off the liquid diet......but I still just crave something I can sink my teeth into. It's a craving I think I will fight forever, and sometimes I lose. I guess what I'm suggesting is that this is day to day, hour to hour for me. I want the crackers, chips, etc. so....don't do it!! Those are the things that you body wants to replace the protein you need. I do a fair amount of gum chewing to help keep my mouth busy....however, I've seen a lot of folks on here who's surgeons forbid it so check with them. Hang in there

I am only 3 days behind you. I am on the "full liquid" diet also. My bariatric nurse told me at my one week follow up on Monday to add instant potatoes to my menu, just make them creamy, not thick. She also said to add half a banana of a couple of strawberries to my protein shake when I blend it in the mornings. (I use triple chocolate flavored powder) Tonight i had 1/4 cup of the pre-made instant potatoes with a couple tablespoons of cheddar and broccoli soup. Was actually rather tasty. Just have to experiment around a little, without going outside the parameters.

Yes, it's a slow healing process.
First, your insides were cut up, then rearranged, new, unnatural openings and connections were made, so the entire system needs to realign and readjust all its functions. The staple lines are swollen up, the unnatural openings are trying to close up and heal itself (which, if it really does, you will end up with no opening to your gut meaning nowhere for the fluids/goods to go save back up and out), the functions all out of kilters because the order of progression of foods have been tampered with. Your body needs to clear all these hurdles to go back into working order again.
That said, you most surely will be progressed to the next food stage at your next follow up appt.
For the chew/crunch factor, try crunching on ice, it's a trick that has helped many.
Hope this helps.

LOL!!!! and you will!@@@
OMG I have to say that the biggest challenge for me is the water and protien, who would of thunk it??
I had a personal best today DRANK an entire protien shake BEFORE it went warm on me...LOL
I know little by little step by step, I am not going to worry myself about the protien and the water, I get it, I am working toward my goals, I know my body needs it, and as best I can I am doing it...
now on to the crying at sappy things, like commercials..really??? WTF? I have never done that before, theres no crying in rock and rolll!!!
