Question Lapband to bypass revision

Hi I have had the Lap band for about three years and lost about 70 lbs but I am still obese with co-morbidities.
I am wondering if any one else has had this revision? I am trying to have a laproscopic gastric bypass. It has been on the national news lately that many of us were pressured to havve the lap band and not offered bypass and had less then optimal results

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My daughter revised from VBG to rny 6 years ago and had to have open rny. There can be considerable scar tissue from your band surgery that MAY preclude the surgeon from doing the revision laprosopically.

There are quite a few here who have done that. Usually they take the band out first and heal up for awhile, depending on the troubles they were having with it. Then they'll have the RNY.

With the RNY, you have no choice but to follow the rules for life, but that's not a bad thing!

Good luck!!

My daughter had the lap band over 10 years ago and in November she had RNY laparosopic with great success and only had to spend 2 days in the hospital.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
The number of revision from lap to RNY is on the rise, I believe. We have more than a few people here who've done so.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

HI I had that done. I had my lapband removed in Sept 2010 and the RNY in 11/2011. There were no problems but my surgeon did tell me that he was going to work with another surgeon (not a fellow) due to the fact complications can set in and it might not be able to be done laperscopically. The surgery went great, they set aside 4.5 hours for the OR but only needed 2.5. They did not have to open me.

My lapband was a nightmare, revised twice so I would think I would have had more scar tissue than most and things still went well. I am down 39 pds since the 11/11, it took over 6 months to do that with the lapband as well as the problems I had getting stuck and slipping. I am thrilled with the results of the RNY.. I highly recommend it, my life has already changed.

Best wishes.

I can think of 5? regulars in support group that switched. I think theyfirst
consulted with a doc who only did lap bands and he of course said lap bands
would be great for them. They had a lot of weight to lose.... and it seems
that was a pattern. They just weren't losing on the lap band. One gal was
actually sick with the band.. vomiting on a regular basis etc. All had
RNY revision, except one had the sleeve. Much happier and much thinner.
Good luck in the weeks ahead.
