Hello everyone!
My name is Ana and I'm from Atlanta. The main reason that I'm here is to do some research for myself - I'm considering lapband surgery but I'm not 100% set on it yet. I'm 28 years old, 5'7'' and somewhere around 476 lbs last time I checked.
I've always been big but in the past 5 years I've put on almost 100 lbs which has really aggravated my sleep apnea. I'm guilty as sin when it comes to food! lol I love cooking southern style food and I also love eating! (obviously!)
Anway, I'm glad to be here. I figured this was a pretty good "before" full body shot. Also - mods - I assume I have to wait a little to upload an avatar?
Love you all! You're so brave!

Hello and welcome. Please do yourself a favor and look into the other surgeries. I though I wanted the lapband but i had two different surgeons talk me out of it and I am so happy that they did. The success rate is just not as good with the band as with R N Y or sleeve. Please do a lot of research and talk to doctors and make an educated decision. There are some here that have had success with lap band but if you check you will see some that have had to change to other surgeries after the band failed.
Glad you found us. Welcome and please keep us posted...

welcome to the site - I'm having the RNY bypass. I've done some reading on the lapband and decided it just wasn't for me. Whatever your decision, I think you'll get some great info here!

| Hello Ana and welcome to the group.
I agree with Dixie, you might really want to consider something else besides the band...just do lots of research before you make your final decision.
Good luck to you and it's nice to have you with us. |

| Hi Ana, Welcome. I, too, was set on the band. I spoke to a surgeon who did both bands and bypass. Afterwards I felt I didn't want the band. I wouldn't lose as much weight as I needed to lose and I didn't want to be hooked up to a port. I think it is a toss up. Some in support group have bands working great and others h.ave had it removed and a bypass done. Some in our group are now having the Sleeve technique. I know if you talk to a doc who only does bands, he will tell you the band is best for you. Some docs offer choices...maybe talk to one of them and ask for their stats.."How many bypass have you done?" When I aksed my doc he said "At least 1,000." That was good enough for me. I did wait a year ... I saw the first surgeon... and he was too far away and so were the support groups. A year later, I found someone closer and I was ready. You are a beautiful girl. Surgery may be right for you. Talk to your GP... read a lot.. ask questions.. My regret is I didn't have surgery sooner. I lost weight, gained weight, etc etc... I wish I did it sooner!! GOOD LUCK!!

Hey Ana I'm in Atlanta and I am having surgey on Jan 31st. I've researched several doctors and I chose the best here in Atlanta. I was thinking the sleeve but after I went to the seminar I learned for my size the gastric was better. Let me know if you want to ht and I'll share my information.

Hi and welcome. This is a very supportive and friendly group. I agree with the others. My surgeon convinced me to have Roux en Y also. I thought I wanted the lap band, but he said that this was a more efficient way to go. Whatever you decide please let us know how you are doing.
