i had gb in april 2005. lost 85lbs, initially, gained 10, sadly. working to reduce that!
it's been a long road. i was SOOOO good early, and then got hooked on wine. why don't we talk more about addiction transfer. i'm working on sobriety, but who the F knew that at 53 i would be an alcoholic? never had more than 2 glasses of wine in my life. i wish i'd had education on this, so i could see it coming. sadly, i had to figure it out on my own.
if you have this issue, PM me, because i'd love your support, and to support you.
joy

Welcome to this friendly and supportive site. I had read that it was possible to have a new addiction creep in to take the place of the old addiction to food. Good luck with your sobriety. I've heard good things about AA from my cousin, so maybe you could try that. Let us know how you are doing.

Joy, welcome back. I feel like I can say that everyone here gets your addiction. From potato chips to chardonney- it's not a far stretch, really. I don't know what you've tried, a great counselor is probably a good idea, to get to the root of your addiction, however it swings. You've kicked on addiction already, I have faith you can do it again. Stick around and let us know how it goes!

I've heard of that before. People who had WLS trading off their addiction for food to replacing it with buying too much clothes, alcohol, etc....
You are not alone. We are here for you. We do understand. Be strong and hang in there. This too shall pass and you will overcome.

Welcome back to the board. There is no judging here. The reality is that we were all addicted to food at some point in time, and cross/transfer addiction after surgery is something we all have to battle against. To be completely honest, addictive personalities run in my family and Im truly afraid to turn to something i may enjoy too much because I dont completely trust myself to stop. For me, I have to avoid it altogether.
Best of luck to you in the battle for your sobriety. It isnt going to be easy, but there is a great group of people here who can provide you the encouragement you need. (((HUGS))))

I'm glad you're getting back on track - my DH has been sober for 22 years - he gave up smoking 15 1/2 years ago - he replaced his smoking addiction with a food addiction - I'm hoping he can get that under control - he's been very supportive my WLS jouney - and would like to do the same thing - he and I have been talking about it and what steps he needs to take before he can even begin to start a similar journey.
I think you'll find some wonderful support here on this board - I'm really glad someone told me about it.
