Obviously, the usual... Water, Gatorade (diluted), Carnation Breakfast, Isopure, Soup Broth, etc... But what about:
  • Sugar-Free Pudding
  • Sugar-Free Ice Cream (no nuts, chocolate chips, etc)
  • Fat-Free Yogurt (no fruit chunks) (I don't know if they make a sugar free yogurt?)
  • Etc...

I'm just trying to maximize what I can "eat" without breaking a rule.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

None of the things you listed were allowed on my liquid diet plan, it's best you ask the doctor what he allows.

My understanding of Liquid Diet is that the things you consume have to literally be liquid... My doc has even said, no Jello at first...

My doctor said that it has to be able to go through a straw, although actual straws are not allowed. I did get to have sf jello, though.

I guess it is different for all.
I think my nutritionist gave us the list in class.
NO Gatorade on my list.
No ice cream
No puddings
No creamy soup
No mashed potatoes
Sugar Free Ice Pops ok
SF jello ok (and I liked it hot..so I could drink it.)
Broth- sodium free-puky... I just drank chicken noodle soup -no noodles.. just the broth, yummy
I seemed to enjoy hot liquids.
I could do yogurt and if I whipped it, I could do cottage cheese.
But, I am talking an ounce or a tablespoon. THat was my meal and it was really all I wanted. It was very satisfying.
ANother thing was oatmeal...but it had to be diluted and look "Runny" in consistency.
You really have to look over your paperwork. Or call your doc or nut and get another set. I still read mine and I am almost a year out.

Def no sugar free ice cream......def! last time I picked up any ice cream that said sugar free/ fat free etc......it was way high in sodium and carbs etc.
I could have sugar free popsicles (amazing, I swear they're made by a greater power)
sugar free pudding (which through my carb withdrawl...I was like "I WANT CHOCOLATE!!!")
fat free cream soups
isopure
sf jello
EAS Carb Control Drinks
Carnation Breakfast Carb Control
no sodium broth

I pretty much lived on the EAS Carb control Strawberry shake all day.....it got me depressed to the point where I just didn't want to eat..(carb withdrawl)...like I threw myself into a mental exercise of, this is what you need to do to get the surgery. My Doc told me if my liver wasn't shrunk when he went in...he would stop the surgery, and make me have to do the diet again. Luckily I lost 20lbs in 8 days. So my liver was plenty of shrunkeness....high protein....low low low if no carbs.....our livers are fatty due to the poor food choices most of us made throughout our lives. (Not neessarily bad, but of course not good enough for our bodies to process properly hence our BMI's)

I have never seen a sugar-free ice cream or yogurt if they're made with milk in any form. Milk has milk sugars in it, and you can't take them out and still have it be milk. Therefore, you can't make sugar-free milk products.

Now I have seen loads and loads of "no sugar added" products. Carnation Instant Breakfasts come in NSA, but not SF. We buy Klondike bars at Wal-Mart that are NSA, but there are no SF versions. You don't have to put more sugar in something when you make it, but if you make it with something that has sugar in it, it cannot be sugar-free.

If in doubt, read your labels! And if it is indeed sugar-free, look to see how many grams of sugar alcohols it has in it. I buy SF honey at Wal-Mart. It's right up there by the bee's honey, but no insects were involved in making it. SF honey is nothing but pure SA. SAs have been known to cause a whole range of dumping symptoms of their own, so be careful with them until you know how your pouch wants to process them.

The purpose of the pre-op liquid diet is to help you bring your mind and body into submission to the new rules you will have to follow for the rest of your life. Adding in the old tastes, with their own food associations and triggers, kind of defeats the purpose of the whole exercise!

One more thing - fat is an essential component of taste. If you take all the fat out, stuff tastes lousy, so the food chemists add in lots of sugar to make it taste acceptable. If you read the labels closely, you may find that the FF versions of just about anything have a lot more sugars in them that the regular versions.

Sorry, maybe I should clarify... I'm talking about the two week pre-op liquid diet.
