Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello and welcome to the group. It is irritating having to jump through all the hoops to get WLS, but it's worth every minute of it. So just hang on and things will fall into place.

I have Tricare. The only issue I had was them saying I was ok'd. I called the doctor and their office took care of it. I say have the doctors staff talk to them. It took around 5 months for me. We're retired so I don't know if that matters. The clinic I'm through is fantastic and I wish you the best of luck. By the way I use Tricare Standard. I've heard Prime is a little harder.

I am new here , as well. I have just finished my one month pre-surgery eating plan. My surgery will be scheduled when I see the surgeon next week. Insurance companies can be so frustrating! Hopefully you will be ready soon for the surgery. I look forward to losing weight along side you in the near future. Best of luck.

Hi and welcome! I too had 6 months required of monthly documentation under the supervision of a doctor or nutritionist. The purpose is to see that you are serious at attempting the life changes that will help you to be a success after wls.

I know it is really frustrating and if you are as inpatient as I was in the beginning you want it done yesterday! That's just how I was but then I eventually came to the realization that I was actually thankful to have that time to start implementing the wls rules way before surgery. That meant a lot of hard work with diet and exercise (just like it will be after wls). I still believe that when you start making the changes before surgery the easier your transition will be and you won't be as stressed or overwhelmed later.

I know it's hard now to be patient but before you know it the months will fly by and your day will be here! Hang in there and hugs.

This is what my insurance required as well. It's not a big deal, really. Use this 6 months to get yourself prepared for surgery and post-surgery. Also, don't be surprised (or mad) if your surgeon requires you to do a 1- or 2-week liquid diet right before surgery!

Learn the rules, get your head in the game. the time will pass quickly, I promise! Best of luck!
