Hello everyone! I am a newbie and considering my options. It seems almost everyone on here has had RNY but I'm wondering if anyone who chose the sleeve could tell me why they felt that was right for them? I am 37 with diabetes and had a heart attack 2 years ago.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Do a lot of search and research, read read read, knowledge is power.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
One thing to note. RNY bypass has the highest resolution rate for diabetes, so, if you have diabetes, then, you may need to take into account what type of surgery has the best results for improvement of certain medical conditions.

Welcome! I'm a sleever! I chose the sleeve because I was afraid of the re-routing and I wanted to lose weight at a slower pace so that I can tone and reduce the flabbiness while I'm losing. I chose the sleeve over the band because I didn't want the foreign object left in me and I didn't want to lose weight that slow.
I like the sleeve because of the reduced hunger hormone and because it's permanent!

| I didn't know about the sleeve. I may have considered it though. However, I have done pretty well with the RNY (I don't have diabetes.) Good luck.

I had the bypass, my hubby had the sleeve. His reasons included wanting to lose weight slower (and he lost 120 lbs in 6 months, so that didnt really work as he planned it, lol). He WAS diabetic too. He hasnt had to take meds since right out of the hospital and still tests well within a normal range.

| I too was considering the sleeve but what helped me finally make my decision to have the RNY was my history of uncontrolled acid reflux. I already had cell changes happening in my esophagus and was scared. After much research I found that the RNY had a higher rate of resolving this issue and it did resolve mine. All the other things I wanted to defeat like diabetes, sleep apnea, high BP, edema, high cholesterol and of course weight seem to have about the same outcome with both surgeries.
I hope this helps.
The best thing you can do is evaluate your specific reasons for wanting wls and like you are doing... research your options.
