Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello everyone, I just had the surgery ten days ago-gastric bypass. I'm a mother of three and very happy in my marriage. My concern is that after the surgery I get very emotinal all the time and I cry. Very unlike me. I also have a lot of free time since I'm staying home after the surgery so I read a lot about the side effects that gastric bypass surgery may cause. I guess I freaked out, some of the sites tell you that you can die early due to lack of vitamins and minerals. Please someone respond , tell me that you are happy with the surgery. I know its only been 10 days and I have to give it more time to see the results, but I dont want to spend the rest of my life worrying that this decision to have the surgery is a wrong decision . Did anyone feel like this after their surgery?

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. Congratulations on making it to the Loser's Bench. Ahhhh, you are on one big emotional roller coaster ride that everyone finds themselves on from time to time. It's quite normal to question your decision when still early out from surgery. Once you can see/feel your weightloss--feel lighter, brighter, have more energy--you'll feel better. One side effect from this surgery that you may or may not encounter, is the blues that come and go. This is pretty normal, and the culprit is your hormones going wacky during the rapid weightloss phase, but if it seems to get out of hand, don't hesistate to see a pro, and get therapy. Plenty have traveled the route you have, take the time to read as many of the threads/posts here, you'll find others going through the same thing you are. Just one thing, stick to your surgeon's instructions as closely as you can, when you find something that you can't go by, ask your surgeon if it's okay to deviate. Also, get those vitamins and supplements in, that your surgeons tells you to take, that is very important in preventing the nutritional deficiencies. Those who have had trouble are the ones who didn't take the vit/supplement requirement seriously. You'll do fine so long as you listen to what your surgeon tells you, and ask him/her Qs where you have Qs. ((((((((HUGS))))))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | NATASHA.... this emotional ups and downs is very common and could last a good part of the first year post op. IF its unbearable seek medical help for meds. I know it was in my character either but got to me a bit that first year. i still get moody but im trying a supplement that someone suggested for my moods...i can only hope. I never fully understood why when i was down 100 lbs i wasnt happy but its part of the surgery and rapid weight loss to be eomtional. FOR some too its the looseing of their best friend food and a greiving time is quite normal as well. THIS is a major surgery and yes complications can arise during those first months. JUST relax, keep your doctor informed of things and all should be fine.DONT ignore anything that doesnt seem right, keep walking and im sure you will do fine. THE percent that have serious complications are lo. RELAX, follow the rules your surgeon gave you for the eating and i am sure all will be perfect for you! hugs

Weight Loss Method Physician Prescribed Diet/Exercise | Dear Natasha; It seems like you're expecting sooooooo much of yourself!!! You had MAJOR surgery 10 days ago, have a marriage, 3 kids, and a home to maintain, etc. right now. That's A LOT! It's VERY normal for ANYONE who's had surgery to be unusually tired and weepy!!! The last time I had surgery, I got in 3 arguments with my husband (and we NEVER argue) in the first 5 days of recovery. If I thought the floor was dirty, I'd instantly get upset because "I've just had surgery and he should take care of these things BEFORE they bother me"!!! Always with me, as I healed, my moods normalized. If yours haven't become quite a bit better in 6 weeks or so, just ask your Doc what he/she thinks! Don't suffer in silence. I did have some "strange thinking" AFTER I lost weight previously. EVERYONE (except my husband) was treating me different. It felt like I couldn't go anywhere without being on the sexual radar--something I was NOT used to. I felt "unlike myself" and it took a good 6- 9 mos of stable weight to feel like the new me "fit"! So... ...we DO go through some adjustments and experiences along the way--good and bad, happy and sad. It's all MUCH better than being trapped in an obese body that has come to feel like a prison (at least it did to me!). Welcome to an exciting journey! XOXO Mya |

5' 6" Height: | Natasha, I am very happy with my surgery. Please give your self a break! You just went through major surgery. It would not be normal if you didn't have some emotions and thoughts in your head. I agree with all the above posts. You will probably get emotional at time down the road. I know I did. Just try and ride through it. I hope that you heal well and start feeling the awe inspiring joy of your journey soon! Good luck. Keep us posted.
