I read through lisa's ariticle and it was so helpful. My bypass surgery was one month ago and the major problem I am having is that most foods make me sick -- just pain -- no vomiting. And I am hungry about two hours after eating, but eating again just makes me sick again. I am following the protocal given to me, but at the very least, I am in some discomfort most of the time. Is this common?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

onmyway, welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
First thing to do, contact your surgeon and tell him/her how you are feeling. It may just be that your pouch is still healing--which it is yet, it takes about 3 months to heal--but, you may be developing a stricture, so you need to be examined by your surgeon.
Can you get your fluids in as you are directed? If eating makes you uncomfortable, go slow there, but be sure to get your liquids in, so you will not get dehydration.

BTW, I will be moving your thread and this post as well, to Your Profile, as it belongs better there.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Hi! Welcome to the boards. Yes please call your surgeon. It might be something minor or you may have what doc says. Hang in there. Its tough when you try things and get discouraged. I had pain when i ate chicken puree for the first two weeks. It was like it was stuck or there was a pinching piercing almost stabbing kind of pain and i would have to lay down until the food moved; literally. But when that happend I went back to soups and broths and then tried the puree again in another day or two. But it gets better. I PROMISE. call your dr and let us know how it all turns out.

YEAH best to keep ur surgeon in the loop of things!!!!!!! MAKE sure he is okay with how your feeling.
IS this pain a pain when u eat that u feel the piece of food as it travels down and pain with it????
LET me know what your exactly feeling and when. ...if so its too big what ur swallowing and ur not chewing enough. I had that happen a few times and thats a nasty pain!!!! and you will vomit everything else eaten after that piece that was to big ...common occurance early out as u learn

OR like doc says a stricture can be starting! BUT usually with that even
liquids would give trouble. WHAT foods are u haveing trouble with?
its trial and error early out learning and in some case little bit of minor troubles.

ALSO i look forward to getting to know you thru your posts!
AND welcome to the looseing side

Lisa, EXACTLY what i was thinking in terms of chewing. With me, I KNOW i wasnt chewing well enough in the beginning and also the things you THINK are soft and moist arent as soft and moist as they should be.

Onmyway: what exactly are you trying to eat and how much?

Default Thanks for all your replies

It was so great to hear from people who really know what I am going through. I am eating very little -- a few tablespoons of soup, or cottage cheese/riccotta. I do feel the food go down and then immediately the pain comes. It usually lasts for about 45 minutes, then I am OK, and before long I'm hungry again. Kozy shack S/F puddings are usually ok, most times a little Peanut butter on saltines (3 or 4) are OK. But pureed tuna and chicken salad, egg whites, eggs, oatmeal are terrible. And what's really frustating is that sometimes everything makes me sick, even if it didn't in the past. I don't have contact with the surgeon, just the nurse practicioner and nutritionist. Fluids are better, but it's weird that I can feel them go down and "land". Thanks again Lorraine

Awww sorry your going thru such.
OUR new pouches can be very fussy
especially early out. ITS all trial and error.
SOME have more problems then others
but its not you!

IM not sure of the pain though so i would still run it
by the surgeon those foods shouldnt hurt....
take it slow even the slightest to much amount will cause hrut cause our stomachs are so small and healing.

its very hard but just keep trying things till u find what works best for your stomach. I know for me i had issues with premade food for well over a year, salad, veggies just to name a few. NOW i can tolerate them.
hang in there.
im sure each day will get better.
MAYBE find a tasteless protein powder to add in ur cottage cheese or sugar free pudding?
just a thought
hugs
