Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | HI!!!!! welcome to the boards! MY surgeon required i loose weight pre op and wouldnt give me my surgery date until that weight was off. FOR me i followed very strict ATKINS induction and lost my required 25 lbs. Its hard and many around me would say go to another surgeon, if you were able to loose weight you wouldnt need the surgery but i loved him and his staff and wouldnt consider changeing. I am sure at local book store you can find the atkins book for all the rules of induction but im sure if you followed that 100 percent you can have that 10 lbs off in two weeks. WHAT i like about atkins pre op is its very similar and helpful to the way of eating as a post op. HIGHT protein and lo carb. SO thats why i suggest this, but its a matter of personal choice. I have heard some surgeons put patients on medifast shakes.... to have preop weight loss so maybe even your doctor can prescribe those..but for me pre op to do all shakes would have been too difficult for me to do. Pre op weight loss is very important. MY surgeon feels it makes for less post op complications and also reduces the liver size to help have a safe lapriscopic surgery. GOOD luck and pm me if you need any more info. WELCOME again to the forums!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I agree with Lisa. The way I plan to do mine is doing the calorie intake. Keeping it below 1200 a day for 3 weeks should take 10 pounds off. Now this option for a person that weighs normal they wont drop it off like that. My surgeon told me to eat like they do with weight watchers points. I have those books already and its just like counting calories but points instead. The only difference is if I dont take but 1100 in for one day I dont bonus myself like weight watchers does the rest of the week by adding them on to another day. I just forget them. Belive it or not if you follow the serving size per meal and just add sides to them like a salad you will get full. Those Lean Quisine meals are not enough to keep you satified. I add a salad with any type dressing you want just pay attention to the calories. And walk. Not a long ways. Just walk for a bit and then come home. The next day do that same amount if you can go a few feet more do so. You should see that 10 lbs come off fast. Its a suggestion. |

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. Congratulations on your approval. As well as something like Atkins and Weight Watchers, if your surgeon doesn't put you on a specific kind of diet like Optifast or Medifast or liquid diets, if you're having a nutritionist consult, then you can ask the nutritionist for pointers. The pre-op weight loss is to make your surgery safer, and to keep you commited. ((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Honestly, I didnt modify my diet at all before surgery. It wasnt required for me. They did however ask me to start walking 20 minutes per day, which i did, and lost a little weight right before. If i had it all to do again i would have substituted a meal or two with a shake just to get used to it. It was somewhat of a shock going from " all you can eat buffet" to NOTHING to liquids only....just a thought. Congratulations on your approval. this is the first step to the begnning of the rest of your life. |

| Big Loser | Atkins always worked for me and it takes the weight off. But each person has to do what is best for their body. Wow army wife that is tough. My liquid diet will start after my surgery. But however starting this week I am going to try and take off some weight due to the fact I have an injury to my hip and back and have not been able to do my walking for almost a month. I know that my surgeon is not going to be happy about that cause I believe I have put on some weight and he is probably going to know I have not been doing my walking. I know that the walking is to get me in shape before the surgery but he is a FIRM believer you WALK. I have not been able to but have not told them about my hip and back becasue they have NOT CALLED!!! Go FIGURE!!! So I had better start trying to do better. I am going to do the low carb thing. I figure do what works for you. So good luck |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | exhorter- I dont look at it as tough. When you really want something bad enough you take it one day at a time thats what im going to do. Im not looking at it as a chalinge but as something i can conguer and look back and say I DID IT! AND I DID IT FOR ME AND NO ONE ELSE
