I am 12 days post-op and am doing fairly well. I am feeling very tired and am getting tired of liquids. I start puree this Thursday. I do feel hungry at times. Is this normal? The gas has been pretty bad I must say. I am soooooo looking forward to getting some energy back and getting out to the park with my son!!!! Are there any suggestions out there for some easily tolerated first foods when I start puree? Thanks in advance!!

I felt hungry too. I was tired for about the first month and did not get my energy back for about a month. As far as the pureed diet goes try some chicken blended in mashed potatoes that was my first meal. Be careful though!! ![]() Good luck to you!!

I would stay as far away from chicken puree as i could! lol! you'll have to try it for yourself though. Ask you doctor first of course and then try some campbells creamy soups, mashed paotatos, beans (smashed) yogurt, applesauce, jello and pudding (all sugar free) TAKE IT SLOOOOOOOW. To be honest i think my "hunger" at that stage might really have been dehydration but im not a dr. Good luck and welcome to the boards. |

I agree with Kenyar at that stage for me I was not getting enough fluids in and that made me feel hungry. Roz

Sorry, hit enter toon soon. Food for me was very tricky, I did mainly protein shakes for at least 3 weeks then I slowly went to food. Pureed food was horrible for me. So I did yogurts, beans and soups. Hope this helps some. Roz

HI welcome to the board. As for me my most favo recipe to recommend for the puree stage was NOODLESS lasagna...take some lofat ricotta, lofat mozzeralla and a splash of sauce and YUMMY! I had the hungries all the time, still do! LOL two years later. FOR me some is head hunger but sometimes its not. I still lost weight and found 5 to 6 mini meals worked best for me along the journey but my meals were all protein! AS for tireds that lasts for a few motnhs were things just wipe you out. PART of healing. YOU are takeing your multi vitamin? and any other supplements your doctor recommended you right?? I promise each day will get easier! HUGS

I too was very tired. My surgeon told me that was normal and could last up to 6 or 8 weeks. Slowly I regained my engery and some days now, Im about 9 weeks post op, I still feel tired. Its due to low iron i think. Im on iron pills called conison ( I think thats what there called ) For me with pureed foods the chicken hit like a ton of bricks. Its seemd to sit in my throat and not move. I also had the same problem with scrambled eggs. But then the next time I ate the eggs it was fine. I did well with puddings, cottage cheese, and the cream soups and I also did yogurt. Just remember to eat very slowly. Its hard in the beginning to remember that. But if you eat to fast you will not feel great. Its defintely a learning experience. Hang in there, its all so worth it. |

For me I ate mostly baby applesause, cottage cheese, protein pudding, eggs, yogurt and protein shakes. I tried pureed chicken at first but you know what happened . As time went by, I was able to handle chicken as well as shrimp(great source of protein). Hope this helpsHappy Losing, Debbie

welcome and hurray you're on the other side.. try ONE thing a day to see how your gut tolerates it. It took me about 2 months of bloating and diarrhea to discover *slaps my forehead!* that I can't eat fruit anymore! It makes me dump..after 5 yrs I can only tolerate to some extent cherries, blueberries and every so often apples..maybe a melon bite but more than that..ew! --bree
