Default D&C needed according to my GYN

Hey Everyone,

Well today I finally after two weeks had my results and my GYN physical. As most know I was sent for a vaginal and other ultrasound due to some spotting and cramping that just began after not having a period due to menopause. Well today the dr did a physical, but then requested another vaginal ultrasound done right then. When the results were in he took me into his office and told me that he wanted to do a D&C on me due to the ultrasound results. When the teck was doing the ultrasound she showed me everything inside and showed me the black in my uterus area. She said that there should be just two white lines and that mine were black and thick. So they want to rule of uterin cancer by doing the D&C on me next week. I told the dr that my co-pay was $2,500.00 and that I had not yet met it. He then said well lets see what loops we can jump through with your insurance company. Well there were NONE nope NONE I must pay the $2,500 plus the extra 40% up front that my insurance will not cover. They only cover 60%. Then she tells me the dr's cost is $1,200 and that I can pay him out but the hospital will not except anything but the full amount.

So I left there thinking to myself ok now what do I do because I was going to use the loan money I got to pay my co-pay to my surgeon and the hospital when I got approved.

Back about 9 years ago they did a biosopy of my uterus to check for cancer that way and I did not have to be put to sleep or check into the hospital why can't they just do it that way again. My mother had this type of cancer at the age of 44. The doctor said he just wants to make sure there is nothing to worry about and get rid of all that is there to make sure it does not turn into cancer like my mom's

So what do you guys think here. Cause I do not have that money to get that D&C and yet because I have insurance I can not go to the clinic that I use to go to when I needed felmale help. If I cancel my insurance then I will lose my last appeal to my husband employer. But if it is cancer and I wait another 2-3 months it could be bad. I need some much needed advice. But there is just no chance of me getting that kind of money at this time.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

years ago we had patients that came into outpatient for D&C only which you might ask your doc about..then they can send off the tissue from that..this would be like going to one of the gyno's abortion - out patient clinics but ONLY for the D&C for non pregnancy issues it's a lot cheaper.

--bree...it's just a suggestion but worth looking into.

There might be some kind of medical assistance in your state that you could look into that might cover this as an outpatient procedure in a clinic as opposed to inpatient in a hospital. I know its a lot to look into and might be somewhat stressful, but there HAS to be some type of assistance.

Well after looking at the reason on the web for why I need it I am convinced that I have to have this so something has got to come through for me. Man it seems I am being hit in every direction these days lately. With me having to do the appeal with my husbands job and now this. I use to go to this awesome clinic in Galveston Tx that is where all my records came from to send to my surgeon for my weight surgery. But once my husband got insurance they will not take me now. I know there has to be an answer to this!! I just need wisdom to know what it is. Thanks for the suggestion I will look into it tomorrow.

I had a D&C done in a Drs. office. It wasn't fun but it was done.

I would think that they want to admit you because, once they get in there and do the D&C they'll keep you under while they send it to the lab and if it comes back positive, they'll do a hysterectomy immediately.

Check with the hospital - I believe they have payment programs for folks who aren't covered 100% by insurance.

((((((HUGS))))))) Sorry, I don't have much constructive advice, except that obviously, your dr wants to do this in the least risky way for you.
I can't say anything worthwhile about the financial aspect, as our medical system in regards to insurance is not the same as the US.

It will work out. I just have to have wisdom to know what direction to take. Things happen for a reason so I know that this will work out just fine. God bless and thanks for your thoughts on this.

My heart goes out to you but I know you will come up with an answer. It is so sad that you can get insurance but sometimes the insurance is worse than not having any at all. As a last resort, find out who your local Congressman is and get a certified letter off to his office immediately if not sooner. We did this for my brother (it was also in Texas) and the wonderful Congressman (or more likely his staff) came through by finding a clinic that would get him open heart surgery immediately and his portion of the bill was very small. They also accepted payments in whatever amount he felt he could afford as long as he sent them something every month. Good luck, I know things will work out.
