Thumbs up HI. My name is Laurie

HI. My name is Laurie. I was so excited to find this message board. I have so many questions. I wasn't sure where to post this. This thread looked good. I have recently been approved for Roux en y or lap band. I am very torn about which surgery to have. I am 32, a mom of 2, ages 3 and 3 months, I weigh 240, 5'6''. Any thoughts?????

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I started out only wanting banding. After meeting with my surgeon I opened my mind to bypass.

Hi Laurie. Welcome to the boards. Like Lisa said, you're the only one who can decide. There is TONS of information here and everyone is always nice and willing to pitch in when you have questions.

I had my Lap RNY on 4/19/07/ I am 30, I have 1 child and I am a single parent. I managed thru the recovery fine.

So make yourself at home and ask away! no question is stupid.

Thank you Lisa and Kenya. I'm glad to hear you both have kids. I was worried about the recovery because my kids are so young. I hear you are really tired for the first few months

well i think it depends. I didnt start getting tired until a few weeks ago. i'm fine now. i modified my diet and got a shot of vitamins and i feel pretty good. my daughter just turned 5 and is VERY active. I kept her home with me the entire month i took off work, with the exception of my first week home.

What about dumping. I realize it doesn't happen unless you eat the wrong food, but it still scares me

the fear is very real for me to this day. But i have ventured out a little and tried new things. at some point you're going to have to just try things and see. Some people cant tolerate regular sugar. i am one of those people, at least I THINK i still am. I havent tried in a while. but things also change. what goes down well for you one week, may not the next. it's lots of trial and error. i can honestly say i think i only dumped once. and it was because i ate a regular jello by accident. that was my first week home. I havent really tried sugar since pre-op. the only time i have gotten sick was when i didnt chew correctly. i know that for a fact, and it's something i work on daily.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on your approval.
You are the only one who can decide what to do, but talk it over with your surgeon, and attend your surgeon's support meetings and info seminars, and ask a lot of Qs there.

((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.
