Talking New to the site, Hello Everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Lori, AKA Gabbielolo. I came across this site while researching GBP. It inspired me off the bat and I had to join. A little info about myself..... I live in Ca., am 35 years old, married for 17 years in August and have four wonderful kids. I have always been a stay at home mom until my youngest started school. Then I finished the RN program and have been working as an RN the past year and a half. I had always been a normal weight as a child and in high school. Weight was never an issue for me and I really never really thought about it. I got married young, and we started a family right away. Family was always my number one priority. Weight crept on with each pregnancy, and it didn't come off with each pregnancy.... so it added up. I went from 145 lbs at 5'8 1/2" to 160 lbs after I got married. I gained a whopping 44 lbs with my first baby! That brought me to 204. With my subsequent children I gained approx 20-25 lbs with each of the three. I stayed around 260-270 lbs for years. I developed HTN about 7 years ago and am on BP medication. Once I started working and am on my feet all day an old ankle injury (I broke my right ankle 11 years ago and had surgery) swells up and pains. The other aches and pains, vericose veins, and fatigue of carrying this excess weight is starting to take its toll. In the past I have tried various diets, including Atkins, Slim Fast, MD ordered diets and Wieght Watchers. I have checked into GBS several years ago, but the MD that I had at the time had the attitude of eat less and exercise and it will come off. I continued to try different diets and exercise and would lose 20 lbs, then it would creep back on. It seemed like a constant battle. So, here I am.... weighing 279#. I want to get healthy. I want to be able to be as active as I once was. I love to go, go, go. I enjoy many sports and traveling, reading, playing games, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Alot of the stuff that I once could do, is harder now to do because of my excess weight. There are weight limited rides that are embarressing when i can't go on them. Airline seats are snug. I could go on and on and I am sure you all understand. I want to be active and healthy. So, I took the first step and went to the MD. My BMI of course is morbidly obese, with the add on of my HTN seems like I am a candidate. My MD wants to do an EKG because I was bradycardic. So, I have an appt. in a few weeks for that. They are setting me up for a sleep apnea study that is a requirement as well. So, I am on the road, going through the prereq's. I have a few friends at work that have had it done, as well as one that has her surgery in August. So, I have alot of support from people that have had it done or going through the process, that's always a plus. I hope all goes well and that in the next few months all goes well so I can have the surgery and a fresh start to a healthier life. I am looking forward to meeting everyone on here. It seems like this site is encouraging and I love to hear the stories of everyone and their success. Feel free to drop me a line! Gabbielolo

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi! Welcome! You sound like such an upbeat person! I hope that all goes well in your quest for surgery. Mine is not for a month yet but I can tell you I can't wait. This site is incredible and the advice is spot-on. We also have the luxury of a real doctor in the field as a member and she is everywhere! I don't know how she finds the time but I have a folder of print-outs that I have gathered since joining the site and most of them are hers! Good luck and see you on the boards!
