Hey all I just felt that I need to write this. You all know the hard time I have had in the past 3 weeks. I had my surgery on June 18th. I woke up in pain, and the pain continued to get worse, and worse. Finally, my Doc decided to go back in, and see what the problem was. So on June 19th, I was back in surgery. I have no idea what happened, all I remember is brief periods of being awake, unable to talk, unable to even think right, kind of just floating. I thought I was dead ( really ) I thought this is hell, that I died and this was my eternal damnation to spend all time being disconected from everyone, and everything. I know I cried alot, and begged Jesus, and God for another chance. I don't know how long I was like this, time meant nothing to me. Finally, I felt someone there with me, and as I looked around, I saw my family there. I know I cried again ( as I am now ) I was given another chance! Shortly later the tube down my throat was pulled and all of a sudden, it seemed like my life was back! I was able to talk, and be involved again what a wonderful feeling! I learned that it was only 3 days that had gone by, and that I had a leak that was repaired, and had a rather bad infection. I was put under so that the doctors could fight it without my interference. Shortly after, I was put in a regular room, and continued recovering. Two days later, I was sent home This was not the end of my story tho. I continued to have serious pain in my stomach, and was no longer able to swallow anything. After numerous calls to my docs, it was decided that I needed to go back to the hospital, so at 3am, I was on the bus for the 4 hour trip to the city. I was admitted, and had 3 different cat scans to rule out a leak or rule out an apsess. All was fine. I was told the pain was just deep insissional pain from where the drain was, and would go away after time. The swallowing problem was decided to be reflux, and I was put on some meds and was told that this to, would resolve itself. After 3 days, I was sent home. So here I am home, feeling very weak, requireing naps 3 times a day. the pain in my stomach is still there, but no where near as bad, but the swallowing issue is still here. I have had 1 peice of toast in the past 2 days, that is all the food that I have been able to eat. I take sips of crystal light during the day, and have about 4 ounces of protein shake a day. That is all I can get in there. Although I do get my vitamins down, I am very concerned that I am not getting the nutrition that I need. So thats where I am now. Im living life 1 day at a time, and just trying to get past this stage. I have written some angry posts the past few days, but I guess Im just trying to unload a lil fustration. I do believe in wls, because the alternative for some is death...plain and simple! I will not give up the fight, and I hope that I am ready to start supporting others that have yet to have surgery. I also need to say, that during my toughtest times, you were all there for me, praying, and wishing me health. There is no way I can express my gratitude to you all for being there for me. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! So, the game continues... I am a loser now, and I just hope the worst is behind me.

Atta boy, Keith!! So great to see you up and running again. You know, in this marathon called life, we all have moments where we want to give up, and just stop there, but you don't always have to keep running to get to goal, you can sometimes jog, sometimes walk, some times crawl, sometimes skip, sometimes stop and take a breather. So long as you keep your face towards the goal, and start moving again, one day, you'll get there. ((((((((HUGS))))))))) Hang in there. You know, when you get to where you want to be despite all your troubles, YOU are going to be the STAR of this journey, as you are living proof that this surgery will save lives DESPITE whatnots, and what is most important is to keep on fighting, never, never, never give up, never say never, never say no.

KEITH IM GLAD To here your home and worry big time about the fact you ONLY ate toast! YOU need your protein for healing! perhaps PM your addy and i can send you products that are not getting used in my home that are protein loaded. I fully understand financials being tight! BUT you have to eat right this early out and i would think toast is a bit much and not enough of what you should be eating at this early stage. GLAD to hear your a bit more upbeat. TRUTHFULLY i think everyone has that moment post op that we regret what we did.......

Hi Kieth. I have avoided posting on your threads since you had surgery because I am pretty new here and haven't had surgery yet. There just didn't seem to be much that I could contribute. I have certainly read all your posts and am finally coming out to say something to you. I know that you have had some really tough breaks since your surgery but something has to be said for your 'never give up' attitude. You may fall by the wayside for a moment but your spirit shines through each and every message you send to us. You WANT to succeed and you are willing to do everything it takes to do so. This last post of yours proves your worth. I wish you the best of health and a speedy recovery! |
