Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi all... I am a newbie to the group. I have researched gastric bypass and I know many people who have had it, and I feel like this is the best choice for me. I have my date scheduled for September 17th. I am really nervous, but excited. My husband is really sick of listening to me talk about the surgery, but it's all I can think about. I am 26 yrs old and I am now at my heaviest, 280. Since I began the approval process for the surgery, I have put on about 25lbs. Horrible, I know...but I have been in somewhat of a food withdrawal, wanting to eat anything and everything I can get my hands on. My husband is in the Navy, and we have a 7 yr old son, Christopher. We are transferring to Hawaii in the summer of 2008 so now is a great time to have the surgery. My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 yr anniversary in December and I have gained 100lbs since we were married. TIme to get it off!!! My doctor hasn't given me any direction as far as what to do before the surgery, what vitamins I need afterward, or what to bring to the hospital. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, and please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin my journey!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Congats on your date!! It is just around the corner. You surgeon should give you all of the info that you need prior to your surgery. As anyone here can tell, each surgeon is different and has many different rules that you must follow. This whole process is a learning adventure! Everyone here is unique in their own way and can tolerate things to different measures. Basically, it is trial and error. You will find lots of good information here as well as helpful and friendly people who are there to cheer you on! Good luck. |

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. Congratulations on your date. My advice to you. I can understand about your going into food withdrawal, but now that your date is coming near, it is best if you started to try controlling it. Some surgeons have you go on a 2 week liquid diet, others ask you to lose 10% of your weight before surgery, still others will say almost nothing. However, even 1 or 2lb less will make the surgery easier for your surgeon, and recovery easier for you, keep that in mind and see if you can start making healthy food choices now, as that will also make your post op journey easier. (((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | HI congratulations on your surgery date! ITS gonna be here before you know it. BEING nervous is normal... we all get scared! IT is a major surgery. FIRST off get out of what we refer to as the "LAST super sydrome" its far safer to eat healthy pre op and loose a few pounds... most surgeons like patients to either loose or go on a liquid diet to reduce the fatty liver size for a safe surgeyr. EVENTUALLY you will be able to eat ur favorite foods just not in the same poritions as before so dont feel you have to get it all in before surgery. IT can be harmful too you gaining just before. JUST my advise not all surgeons think this way mine did. SOME USEFUL BOARD LINKS FOR YOU: http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...gery-tips.html http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...-with-you.html http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...e-post-op.html My surgeon recommended i use centrum chewables that i buy at walmart and been on them well before my surgery. I was also on TUMS 4 times a day and now further out i use calcium supplements as well. All surgeons require different supplements, but my blood work is fine so we havent done to much extras. I did go on b12 for a little bit a nasal spray called nascobal being i couldnt get to my doctor for shots but i dont really use it anymore. HOPE you find this information useful! hugs and welcome
