Hi there,
Im new to the site and wanted to ask if there was any advice before the surgery?
I have go some protein shakes. But what other kinds of things do you feel maybe helpful?
Also, about how long did it take you to recover to the point where you could go back to school or work?

Thanks for any advice!

Dimples :O)

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Dimples,

Everyone heals so differently, so you are going to see a lot of advice on this thread. I was out for 2 weeks and went back p/t for 4 weeks. I bought all kinds of stuff preop, but ended up throwing it out after the surgery, because I no longer liked the taste of it. I wish you best best of luck and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Hi Dimples welcome to the site. You will find so much helpful information and support on this site. The links from Lisa above have alot of useful info on them. I am having surgery the same day as you. This site has been invaluable to me. Read through some of the old posts thay have answers to all kinds of questions. I have gotten my vitmans, and some protine for when I get home, I did not buy too much though because eveyone says that your taste changes after surgery and I don't want to end up throwing it away so I will just wait until after to stock up. I a packing lite for the hospital. Your DR. and Hospital is a good place to get information about how to prepare for everything. I look forward to after surgery we can commiserate, and support each other. All the luck in the world to you and may God Bless You.

My dr only gave us limited things to eat/drink. I hated the runny oatmeal, grits didn't go down well, but I ate instant potatoes, a lot, with butter! Also soup - cream of . . . (but remember only 2 ozs. I bought these little cups from Target which only holds 3 ozs. It made it much easier and I could almost fill it. Also ate yogurt - no fruit in it must be smooth. Good luck to everyone. It's wonderfully exciting when everytime you weigh in you've lost weight. Also I bought a great scale. It has a memory in it and tells you what you've lost (or gained) since the last time and keeps a running total. Some people say not to weigh but I weight every am. My dr recommends it as well - he says you can keep better track esp when you are further out and can see right away if you gain anything and can react immediately.

Cottage Cheese works well for me, also yogurt. Some SF pudding, low fat milk, eggs, refried beans, or any other kind that you might want to blenderize. Buy SMALL quantities. One package of instant oatmeal is lasting me through 4 meals!
