I had surgery Sept 11 and I am doing great. I am so pleased with my surgeon. I hate to complain because I am so lucky to have no complications.....but why am I still hungry with a huge appetite???? I am on a liquid diet still and will be for another week. I have added protein to my diet with shakes, drinks, etc... I keep hearing stories about about gastric bypass patients who are full after a few sips of anything. This is not the case with me. I never feel full and at times I'm even hungry. Is something wrong?? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hmmmm, cant say that I know how you are feeling. I had to set an alarm to make sure that I ate. Now I think it is in my head that it is time to eat. There are certain days right before lunch that I actually feel hungry, but it is not often and it definately isnt the "starving feeling". I am 6 weeks out now, and still have to make myself eat something for breakfast. I can not get up and eat, so I will make it and take it to work with me. I would suggest you call your surgeon and see what you might recommend. Are you getting in the water between meals? I think that is what keeps/kept me full.

Welcome to the losing side of things! Glad you had an uncomplicated surgery. As for being hungry, is it head hunger? It took me awhile to figure out the full feeling everyone talks about, but you should be feeling when you get to the puree stage. The liquids basically go right through you, so when you get to the next stage, you should feel the fullness. I think I am right? Maybe one of the seasoned veterans can fill you in better.

My doctor said the same thing. The liquids go right through you. Tell me the difference between head hunger and real hunger??

You are used to eating, so your head is tricking you into thinking that you are hungry, but you really are not. Did you have to do a liquid diet for preop? |

Welcome home, congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench. Whether you *feel* hungry or not differs with each person. While many have a hard time keeping up with the fluids, others feel that fluids just pass through, and feel hungry. Your body is still trying to heal, so just go with your surgeon's program, and things will start settling down. You may find that in a week or two, you'll have a hard time trying to deal with food, instead of feeling hungry. (((((HUGS)))) May your journey go well.

Sorry I cant say that I was teh same. I just remember feeling so overwhelmed and thinking oh my its time to eat or drink again. But further down the road I did feel hungry some days and like the other ladies said, I think its head hunger. This surgery has alot of mind games with it I feel. I think I just thought I was hungry and I really wasnt. WElcome to the loosing side of things and I hope things contine to go well for you. |
