Thumbs up New Here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, my name is Tabitha. I am new here. I haven't had surgery, but i go for my first visit on october 4, 2007. How long does it take for them to actually do the the surgery? Is it painfull? Does it take a long time to recover? Sorry for all the questions, but i am nervous about the whole situation. My family doctor recommended me for the surgery, because of all the failed attempts to lose weight. Right now, i am at the biggest i have ever been, so i am ready to do it. By the way, congratulations to all who have done it, your pictures are amazing!!!!!!!! MySpace.com - chabela - 29 - Female - CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Illinois - www.myspace.com/chabelafelizcontigo

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Tabitha...welcome to the board! It actually depends on your surgeon and how fast it takes for the insruance co to approve you. It wasnt too painful (I had the Lap RNY) and I was back to work p/t in 2 weeks.

hi welcome. lets see it took me 3 weeks from the date i inquired and did the seminar to actually having it done. I had lap RNY on 4 19/07. i had little to no pain. I was back at work in 5 weeks but i milked it. i could have gone back sooner i just didnt want to.

its cool that you are taking the first steps. make sure you write down all your questions and go over them with the surgeon doing your class. good luck on your journey.

I was a self pay (so didn't have to wait for insurance). It tooka about two months from the first seminar I went to until the surgery. My doc is a very busy man and that was with me pushing to get it done ASAP. I didn't find the surgery at all painful, but I have psoriatic arthritsi so laying in bed after surgery killed my back. I am sure you will do fine and welcome to the board.

Hi Tabitha,

Well as you will see from reading all the posts, everyones surgeons are different. My journey was a long one. My whole process took like almost 9 months. I guess it depends on your area and your doctor. But I didnt think it was too painful. I too was out 5 weeks but my doctor took me out for 1 month and then I added another week on due to one of the incesions that was having problems. But I could have probably gone back sooner. I dont think there was hardly any pain. Maybe a bit of discomfort but thats it. The hardest part for me was in the hospital and I was having a bad reaction to the morphine and then they would give me anti nauseau meds and then it was just a vicious cycle but other than that I think it was fine. And like someone else said, it is so worth it.

I am the biggest sissy I know, and I have to say the pain after surgery was mostly for me due to the hospital bed, they are not very comfortable. At home in my own bed I was much better. As for the pain meds, they gave me a button to push when I felt I needed pain meds and the meds when in my IV. They unhooked me that nite because I wasn't using it! My doctor had me pick up a prescription of Vicodin and an anti-nausea med before my surgery in case I needed them and I never used either one! I personally know a few others that have had this surgery also who never used the meds at home either!
